NAZARETH COMMUNITY OF CARE CHRISTCHURCH - NEWSLETTER August 2018 We have been blessed with great weather as we welcome the month of August. The core value for August and September is JUSTICE! Love, Compassion, Patience, Justice, Respect, Hospitality
Pastoral Care Sisters Rosalie and Sister Teresa Clare will be conducting Mission Alive for all employees, volunteers and Friends of Nazareth. Please check the program for the session times. This will be a great time for us all to focus on the core values and to remind ourselves to demonstrate the values in our day to day interactions with others. The Young Vinnies came on the 28th July to assist the residents to and from Mass. Also assist at Morning Tea and provided entertainment for the residents. The Young Vinnies are from Cathedral College. They will come at the end of each month to provide voluntary service for the residents and employees. We are truly grateful for their generosity. Ron Healing will come on Saturday 4th August with his group to have a day with Mary following the 10am Mass. Please see the posters around the facility for the program. All welcome to join in honouring Mary the mother of Jesus. A special welcome to all new residents and employees. May the Lord bless you and your family abundantly. God s blessings! Sr Ana Robertson Sister Superior & Mission Director Care Corner Deborah Collins Care Services Manager It is so pleasing to see positive results from our initiative to introduce the concept of Intentional Rounding here at Nazareth House. Already there are noticeable improvements with employees engaging fully in the process. I am very proud of the way they have embraced the initiative and understanding the benefits not only for the residents, but for themselves as they are able to pre-empt residents needs each time they check on them through this process. They see the opportunity to ensure things are within reach, that the residents are comfortable and their needs met on a routine basis and not solely reliant on use of the call bells. Residents know there will be someone to check on them at regular pre-determined intervals and this alone gives a feeling of security and opportunity for social interaction. It has yet to be validated (too soon) that the use of call bells has potentially decreased since intentional rounding was introduced but I expect to be able to assess this is the coming months in conjunction with specific results of intentional rounding. 2 patience justice respect hospitality love ` compassion patience justice respec lov nce justice respect hospitality love compassion patience justice respec

We had Rose Fashion that comes twice a year to Christchurch with beautiful clothing. We had our tiny tots to read and sing to us and it s been so popular. We had a busy month with lots happening. Our weekly activities were well attended as always. Our National M.P. Paula Bennet visited and had afternoon teat with all those attended, the residents enjoyed seeing her. We had a lovely trip out the country to see some snow on the mountains. The Bennett s We also had Labour M.P. Dr Duncan Webb to visit for afternoon tea. He was so impressed with Nazareth and is hoping that we can get Prime Minister Jacinda to visit next time. It was lovely for the residents to come to a wedding morning tea and give their best wishes to Adrian and Haidee. We are off to Barrington to have afternoon tea at the marque and a look around and finally we are having mid-winter afternoon tea and music by Charlotte to end July. The daffodils are just beginning to put their heads up and it won t be long till we are seeing the blossoms. A very big thank you to all employees, residents and volunteers for your support.
