Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday) 8 April 2018 Saint Luke Church, Whitestone, New York From the Pastor -- Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, let Angel ministers of God exult, let the trumpet of salvation sound aloud our might King s triumph! Be glad, let earth be glad, as glory floods her, ablaze with light from her eternal King, let all corners of the earth be glad, knowing an end to gloom and darkness. Rejoice, let Mother Church also rejoice, arrayed with the lightning of his glory, let this holy building shake with joy, filled with the mighty voices of the peoples. Easter Proclamation Easter Vigil For fifty days the church celebrates the joy and hope of Easter Sunday - the Easter Season provides the opportunity to reflect on the Paschal Mystery of our Salvation in Christ Crucified and Risen. Allow me to express my gratitude and sincere thanks to all those whose generosity and service helped to make the Solemn Liturgies of Holy Week here at the parish both prayerful and beautiful. It was a special gift to celebrate these holy days with so many of our parishioners, neighbors and friends. I wish to thank the Liturgical Ministers - Lectors, Ministers of Holy Communion, Altar Servers, Ushers and Choir Members; to Jessica Tranzillo Smith, the parish Director of Music; to Loneda Joutakiene, our organist; special thanks to our sacristans Peter Paolo and Aidan Ryan; to John Sommer and Boy Scout Troop 235 for tending the Easter fire - and to all our dear parishioners for their reverent and prayerful participation at the Liturgy. A special word of gratitude to Fr. Peter Penton and Fr. Paul Kim for their presence and involvement as well as to Msgr. Strynkowski, Fr. Bruno, Fr. Rucando and Fr. Colalello for their priestly service. May the joy, hope and presence of Christ Risen be with us - and through us to enable us to proclaim the Good News: Jesus Christ is truly Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia. Happy Easter! Let us pray for one another, 1

MEMORIALS ARE AVAILABLE TO GIVE IN MEMORY OR HONOR OF YOUR LOVED ONES To our parishioners, Thank you for all your Easter gifts, cards, prayers and delicious treats shared with the priests. Your kindness is most appreciated and certainly added to the Joy of Easter. Thank you for your generous support of the various collections taken up during Holy Week and Easter. Please call or visit the rectory if you would like to arrange for a memorial in memory or in honor of a loved one. The following memorials are available weekly. ALTAR BREAD ALTAR WINE SANCTUARY LAMP ALTAR CANDLES ALTAR FLOWERS The name of the person remembered will be printed in the bulletin. ALTAR CARE The celebration of the Eucharist is at the center of parish life. We are a Eucharistic Community. Liturgical Ministers assist the priest and community in this celebration lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Ushers, Music Ministers, Altar Servers. Yet, we often overlook another important ministry those who care for the altar linens. Although not seen at the liturgy itself, these women keep the altar linens clean and worthy of use at the altar. They wash and iron linens and keep them in good condition. These dedicated women are always looking for volunteers. Their ministry is done at home, taking the soiled linens and returning them to the sacristy ready for use. Would you like to help this important ministry? Give the rectory a call and ask for Theresa. Welcome... to Kenneth Wurtz who was admitted to the Catholic Church and union with Christ through the reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil on Holy Thursday, March 31st and to Karla Farina who completed her initiation with the reception of Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Please keep them in your prayers and offer them the gift of our good example. 6

Spring Time is Here In Mrs. Fabregas class the children were excited about the first day of Spring. The children had their little hand painted as for the stem of the flowers. They giggled as the teacher painted their hand. Then the children traced the letters spelling out Jesus on each tulip. After that the children glued on the tulips, planting pot and sun. They had a lot of fun doing this project. 13
