"What God has joined, let no one separate" (Matt. 19.6). Man ORDER OF and woman make a permanent commitment to one another until death do they part. By restoring the original order of creation disturbed by sin, Jesus himself CELEBRATING gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new realm of the Reign of God. It is by following Christ, renouncing themselves, and taking up their MATRIMONY crosses that spouses are able to receive the original meaning of marri age and live it with help of Christ. This grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ's cross, the source of all Christian life (Catechism ofthe Catholic Church Number 1615). 2017, Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, Liturgy Office In your prayers please remember Ronald J. FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BOB HOSPITALIZED Perseverance is one of those virtues that we find quite difficult, especially when we see little or no progress in attaining the desired goal. It is probably even more so in our time and place in history where we have grown accustomed to instant gratification. The two disciples on the road to Emmaus had given up all hope in this Jesus of Nazareth whose message had inspired them but it all came to a tragic ending on the hill of Calvary, or so they thought. But the risen Jesus searched them out, walked with them, and broke bread with them, which led them to an overwhelming transformation. It is for this reason that the Church from the very beginning chose the first day of the week for the breaking of bread that we call Eucharist. We are also on a journey to the Kingdom but sometimes we get weary and discouraged. But it is in the breaking of the bread that we too encounter the risen Lord, share in this meal, and become ourselves the risen Presence of Jesus for others. It is here that we engage in the mystery of our salvation and are shaken out of our limited vision and begin to see ourselves and others as God sees us. We must choose this same journey, over and over again, for that presence will be pulled from us by the demands and pressures of our daily lives and we need to walk with our risen Savior in the celebration of the Eucharist and listen to His words in the proclamation of the Gospel message. This gathering each week should not be seen as obligation but as invitation so that we don t grow weary of the journey, for we have a promise that it will then end in glory, perfect love, and eternal life. On a more practical note, our religious education program will soon be coming to a close. This, however, does not mean that the youth of our parish are somehow excused from fulfilling their weekend obligation of participating in the celebration of the Eucharist that we call Mass. We may not refer to eating three meals a day as an obligation but a necessary part of daily living if we are to remain healthy and productive individuals. The same is true of our spiritual life, for we need to be nourished by Word and Sacrament to be fit for eternity. PLEASE, if you have a loved one admitted to the hospital or nursing home contact the office. The hospital may take your church information, but we are not always notified. Fr. Bob likes to get to the hospital in a timely manner, but cannot if he doesn t know. Thanks for your help. PRAYER CHAIN Do you know someone who needs prayers? Please contact Debbie Washington at 536-3616 or dlwashi@hotmail.com to place a name on the parish Prayer Chain! Boxes for requests are also located in the vestibules of our worship sites. I realized I failed to put an announcement in the bulle n. So I thought I would share a photo in a recent newsle er from Hogar de Enmanuel. The li le girl, Maria Rafaela, we have been sponsoring is having fun in the sand. The Lenten folder collec on goes to help with expenses for Maria and the baby Miguel (not pictured). You are s ll welcome to donate to help with them. We have pledged to give $30 a month for each of these children. As of 4/23/17, we have collected $237.75 which leaves us $482.25 short of our pledge. If you are able to donate you are welcome to turn in an envelope labeled: "HONDURAS Orphans." If you would like this keyed as part of your dona ons, then please put your envelope number on the envelope. We appreciate any help!

Families & the Gospel April 30 Lk 24:13-35 In today s gospel the disciples were returning home so downcast they did not recognize Jesus walking with them. In our homes we can be so overwhelmed with responsibilities we don t see God with us. Today s gospel tells us to stop and open our eyes to the blessings we are to one another. BUS TRIP: P P VS.
