November 26, 2017 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Page Three From the desk of the Pastor... Congratulations and Thank You, Marilyn!!! We recently bestowed the annual Reverend John R. Hall Memorial Unsung Hero Award upon the wonderfully deserving Marilyn Kirschten. Many of you know Marilyn as she has been involved in our shared parish life serving in many, many capacities over the years. She is a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at both Sunday and weekday (6:30am) Masses. Following morning Mass she can regularly be found watering plants and cleaning up. She is currently serving on the Parish Pastoral Council, a role she has held numerous times over the past many years. She is our Wedding Coordinator who helps me by running rehearsals and assisting at the wedding, etc. She serves as a Bereavement Minister assisting those who have recently lost loved ones with funeral Mass preparations and her consoling presence. She is a Minister of Care who brings Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. She is a Leader for our Bible Study group and one of the principal organizers of our Parish Day of Service. Even with all of this I feel like I m leaving some things out! Thank you, Marilyn, for your generous and tireless efforts in serving the Lord and our parish community. We are blessed. B-day Prayer I recently celebrated a birthday and a kind soul made an offering to the Priests of the Sacred Heart at Hales Corners, WI, so that I d be remembered in their Masses and good works throughout this new year of life. It s a wonderful gift, sometimes called a spiritual bouquet, and I always appreciate it when prayers and especially Masses are being offered that I be the best priest I can be. The card that indicated the offering also had on it the following very simple prayer that I found myself praying and thought I d share with you for your use, perhaps, when you celebrate your next birthday: Have a blessed week, Today is My Birthday, Lord Of all the gifts I ve received I hold the gift of Your Love closest to my heart. Of all the friends I ve known, I cherish above all Your Friendship. There have been difficult days on this journey called Life, even sorrow, but You have been there for me. There has been joy and laughter and I ve seen Your presence there. You breathed life into my soul and You chose me to live! I hope You are pleased with me. I ask that You forgive me when I fail You. Today is my birthday, Lord, and I offer this day to You. I ask only that You walk with me. Lead me home, O Lord, where we will celebrate this journey of friendship and love in the everlasting life prepared by You. Thank You for this birthday, Lord!
