PAGE TWO YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ YÜÉÅ à{x ctáàéüëá Wxá~ This Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, is known as Gaudete Sunday, a word which means Rejoice. We rejoice on this Sunday because we are in the la er half of Advent, and the light of Christ at Christmas draws nearer. On this Sunday we light the rose candle on the Advent wreath, and the priest has the op on of wearing a rose vestment at Mass instead of a violet one. The color rose is used because it is brighter than the violet of Advent, but not quite as bright as the white that we use at Christmas. But before we get to Christmas, we s ll have me in this Advent season to prepare our hearts. And one of the best ways to do that is not by shopping or planning par es, but by being absolved of our sins and reconciled to God. As Catholics we do that by celebra ng the great sacrament of Reconcilia on. So, I hope you can join us for our Advent Reconcilia on Service on Monday, Dec. 17 th at 7:00pm. Please note that the service will be held at St. Maria Gore Parish, 3929 N. Wehrman Ave. in Schiller Park. Several priest confessors will be available that night for individual confessions. I hope you can also take me in the midst of this busy week to reflect on the meaning of Christmas, and one way to do that is by coming to our annual Christmas concert. The Reading of the Infancy Narra ve of the Lord will take place this Wednesday, Dec. 19 th at 7:00pm here in church. At this concert we will listen to the Gospel stories of Christ s birth, interspersed with Christmas hymns sung by our Parish Choir. Take one hour out of your week to come and let God speak to you through His Word and through song. And because this is a busy me of year at the parish, that means that I always have several people to thank, the people who make our ministries and events possible. First, I would like to offer a belated thank-you to parishioner Val Abatangelo, and to our maintenance man Mike Morello. Each year, right a er Thanksgiving, Val coordinates our parish Giving Tree, which is always very successful. The Christmas gi s we collect for the Giving Tree go to the Women s Center in Chicago, who in turn distributes them to families in need. And Mike, our maintenance man, rou nely collected the gi s, bagged them up, and moved them out of the church to be stored un l the Women s Center picked them up (because we were running out of room in the church!) The gi s were bundled together in large, black garbage bags, and we had enough gi s to fill 36 bags! So, thank you to Val and Mike, and to all of you who donated gi s. I would also like to thank those who helped make our annual Parish Christmas Party possible last Sunday. Thank you to parishioner Jerry Hoss, who has organized the party for many years. She was not able to be with us at the party this year, so I want to thank our business manager Marlene Bacha, and our Rel. Ed. Coordinator Zerlina Kirchen, for stepping up to run things in Jerry s place. Thank you also to our music director Richard Gersten, who provided wonderful entertainment at the party (a er playing at all our Sunday Masses that day). And of course, thank you to those of you who took the me to come celebrate the season with your parish family! Finally, if you re a last-minute Christmas shopper (like me!) and you plan to shop online, don t forget about our parish s partnership with AmazonSmile. Please consider shopping at AmazonSmile, which is part of Amazon.com. AmazonSmile offers the same products as Amazon. All you need to do is go to www.smile.amazon.com and select St. Beatrice Church from the list of approved chari es. Once you choose us as your charity, there s nothing else that you need to do. Every me you make a purchase on AmazonSmile, St. Beatrice will receive 0.5% of that purchase price. And please remember that this is not simply a temporary setup for Christmas. You can use AmazonSmile all year round, and they will always donate that 0.5% to us, as long as you select us one me as your charity of choice. St. Beatrice, pray for us. May God bless you. Fr. Rob

Third Sunday of Advent In today s Gospel John the Baptist says, whoever has two cloaks should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.. Christmas is a time of love and gift giving... Please share our abundance by giving a gift to the society of St. Vincent de Paul so that those who do not have clothes and food can share in the blessings of Christmas. WOMEN S CLUB UPDATES The Women s Club Christmas Brunch will be held on Saturday, December 29th at the Great Escape beginning at 11:00am. Tickets are $17.00 and members will be in the back of church the weekend of December 15th & 16th to sell tickets. Our next general meeting will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 10:00am at the rectory. Wishing all a peaceful and blessed Advent and Christmas. Karen, Sue, Mary Ellen and Mary Jo MARK YOUR CALENDARS Take a break and join us in church on Wednesday, December 19th at 7:00pm for The Reading of the Infancy Narrative of Our Lord. We looked at the purpose of each Sacrament and what are the signs and symbols used in the reception of each sacrament. We also spent time taking a look at the Sacrament of Baptism. We studied how baptism effects our soul by cleansing us from Original Sin and initiating us into the Church and God s family. We discussed that being members of the church means that we are missionary. Meaning we are sent to bring the Good News to others. We discussed how this effects our lives as Christians.
