We speak of the family of nations, of our church and parish families. The greatest compliment we can pay a friend or gracious host is to say that we feel at home with them, we feel part of the family. Families are the first crucibles in which love is tested and tempered. Jesus himself was one of three people who lived in the shadow of each other. This family, like our own, did not always get it right, but they always tried to. These three amateurs were on holiday, and one of them got lost. Two were worried sick and took great measures to find the third, a boy after all, who was seeking the meaning of his calling. He found his vocation to do his Father s work but he also returned home with his parents. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. After-School Homework Helpers and High School Tutors Needed at the Brooklyn Public Library The Brooklyn Public Library is offering two exciting volunteer opportunities: The After-School Homework Help program trains volunteers age 16 and over to help children in grades 1-8 with their assignments. Volunteers assist students one-on-one or in small groups with all subjects. The High School Tutor program trains volunteers age 18 and over to help high school students in grades 9-12 in all subjects. High School Tutors support, assist and encourage students as they prepare for standardized tests, apply for college, and complete homework assignments. These programs are an important resource to Brooklyn youth, and volunteers gain both satisfaction from helping others and valuable experience working with children. Vocations Committee Bishop DiMarzio has asked that all parishes establish a Vocations Committee. The purpose of a vocations committee is to meet periodically to discuss prayer, campaigns, distribute materials and other ways that we can support the members of our parish who have been called by our Lord to the religious life, to marriage or to serve in another way. If you would like to participate in such a committee here at Our Lady of Angels Parish, please contact the rectory at 718-836-7200. www.whatsmycalling.org www.brooklynpriests.org BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP Where: St. Ephrem Spirituality Center 935 Bay Ridge Parkway (lower level-entance on the right) When: Monday evenings - Jan. 7, Jan. 14, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 18, Feb. 25, 2019.
