Washington, D.C. 20007 (202) 338-1240 www.divinescience.org dschurchdc@aol.com Mar 6 LESSON TOPICS FOR MARCH ARE YOU LISTENING? Rev. Maria Borrero Throughout our lives there are many voices trying to direct us. We must decide for ourselves which voice will lead us to our true place: The Kingdom of God. Mar 13 THE PART WE PLAY Rev. Janet Friedline (Daylight Saving Time) We are told that God created the universe and everything in it. That includes us. We each have a part to play in God's plan and purpose for life. Let us discover what it is. Mar 20 HOSANNA Palm Sunday Rev. Donna Gatewood Let us recognize our true I AM, our Christ, so that we may receive the gifts of our sonship and realize deliverance and salvation from the world. Mar 27 SPIRITUAL FULFILLMENT Easter Rev. Maria Borrero Within each one of us there is an ongoing desire to know God and know our true self. Jesus, the Christed One, demonstrated that life is lived from within out. He showed us that it is up to us to do the spiritual work. COMES THE DAWN Rev. Pat Beach All four Gospels tell the Good News of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. They give different and sometimes conflicting accounts but all agree in describing how slowly the people came to realize what had happened. All reports said this began while it was still dark. The people were in the dark about Life beyond a visible level even though that had been the whole of Jesus teaching. After the empty tomb was found, we re told of the many instances where Jesus appeared to various individuals and groups. Even in his Presence, the people didn t recognize the Truth because they were caught up in old patterns of belief. They knew him only after communion with him. And so it is with us. We too have heard the message and we too have reason to understand. Yet, only through the practice of union and communion will we know the Light of the world. Almighty God, we give thanks that through worship in the Silence, the day breaks and the shadows flee away.

The people that walked in the darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isaiah 9:2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Greetings from your Board of Trustees! Below are the recent developments and issues undertaken by the Board. ITEM #1 The Board met with financial advisors, James Palumbo and Geoffrey McHenry of UBS Financial services, Inc. on Sunday, January 17. The purpose of this visit was to examine the church s financial status and to make suggestions for the best direction for our accounts that would invite sustenance as well as some growth. This will be an ongoing relationship. ITEM #2 This year, we honored the ministers of the church by making all three our Valentine Sweethearts. We were even able to keep it a secret right up until the announcement at the reception. Our ministers work tirelessly in the best interest of the church and we give them our heartfelt thanks. At the Board sponsored reception following the Sunday service, each honoree was given a bouquet of flowers and a gift certificate to a local boutique. The event was well attended and the food was scrumptious. ITEM #3 We continue to invite qualified individuals to run for the church Board. The nominating committee members are Margaret Greenblatt, Rev. Janet Friedline and Shirley Taylor Moore. When these individuals approach you, please give serious thought and consideration to this opportunity for you to offer your talents and support in serving the church. May elections are just around the corner 2 ITEM #4 Save the date! We invite everyone to join us for BRUNCH, SUNDAY, MARCH 20, immediately following the service. Family, friends, spouses, significant others, coworkers all are welcome! The cost is $10.00 per plate for a satisfying menu of home fries, quiche, sausage, assorted breads, orange juice deviled eggs, fruit salad and more, not to mention the warm ambiance. Reminders will be in your Sunday bulletins as well as advertisements in the community. This is our spring fundraiser, the proceeds of which will go toward the costs of the building project of this past fall and winter. Sign-up sheets will be in the library, or you may call the church to register or you may email the church directly at dschurchdc@aol.com If, for some reason you cannot attend and would like to make a contribution, donations are accepted. Please make checks out to the Divine Science Church and on the memo line refer to Building Project. Please be sure to give us the number of people in your party. Come on out and enjoy this wonderful event! And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1John 4:16 (NIV) Shirley Taylor Moore, President Smoore2835@aol.com SPIRITUAL RETREAT Dr. Al G. Salazar Ye Are Complete In Him June 2-4, 2016 The individual who commits to the practice of the Principle on which Divine Science is established will manifest Wholeness of Being. This realization of Wholeness inevitably reveals Itself as harmony in every

facet of life through the law of cause and effect. Or, as Divine Science states it, as in mind, so in manifestation. But agreeing with this Truth is not enough. It must be realized as an activity in consciousness. A challenge has been given unto us all by the Great Teacher who said, I have given you an example. What I do you can do. During this retreat we will once again focus on That which is Real and True and within us, the Pearl of Great Price. I look forward to seeing you there. *** Dr. Al G. Salazar, our Minister Emeritus, will be facilitating a two day retreat beginning on the evening of Thursday, June 2 through Noon on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The retreat will be held at the Priest Field Pastoral Center in Kearneysville, West Virginia. Accommodations for twenty-0ne (21) individuals have been reserved for this event. This number includes nine (9) single occupancy rooms and six (6) double occupancy rooms. Rooms will be reserved on a first come first served basis. For a single occupancy room the cost per person will be $290; for a double occupancy room the cost per person $270. These are the costs for the entire two days and include lodging, six meals, meeting room fees, supplies and snacks, and an honorarium for Dr. Salazar. If you would like to participate in this very special spiritual gathering with Dr. Salazar, please complete the registration form provided in this newsletter and mail or bring it to the Church with your check made payable to the Divine Science Church. If 3 you are mailing the registration form and check, please send them to: Divine Science Church, Attention: Donna Gatewood at 2025 35 th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007. The deadline for registration is April 30, 2016. Upon receipt of check and reservation form, you will be sent a letter of confirmation with driving instructions and a Retreat schedule. Each individual will be responsible for arranging for his/her own transportation to and from the Center. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Donna at 703-641-9141. CHRISTMAS GIFT BOUTIQUE The Christmas gift boutique was a wonderful opportunity to allow my mother to give a gift to the church. The sale of many gift, jewelry, and Christmas items from her estate resulted in the church s general fund receiving $1,030.00. To all of you who made purchases, I give my heartfelt thank you. My wish is that each of you, or the recipient of the gifts, enjoy the items that sat unused in the china cabinet for years. Love, Donna Gatewood LENDING LIBRARY We love it when you purchase books from our bookstore, but also remember that the church has an extensive Lending Library as well. To ensure the preservation of the books on loan, there are some policies that we ask you to adhere to: 1) to borrow books from the Lending Library, you must be either 1) a member of the church, or 2) be an active student 2) you may check out up to three books at one time

3) purchase an annual library card for $10.00 4) replace any books you lose or damage 5) return books within a month to avoid paying a late fee of $1.00 per day that the book is overdue 6) sign a Library Membership form agreeing to the policies above It s as easy as that! I hope those of you with lapsed Lending Library membership cards will consider renewing and I hope we will see some new members as well. Sincerely, Deb Clarken, Bookstore Manager SPRING CLASSES Starting on Sunday, April 3 at 9 am: Meditation Rev. Dr. Denise King-Miller, Instructor Date: Sunday, April 3, 2016, 9:00 am Prerequisite: Basic Principle of Divine Science The Meditation class is approached in a well-defined, scientific manner and clearly establishes the difference between the cosmic and spiritual levels of awareness. The transcending spiritual meditation process and its practical application to every-day living are emphasized in every session. Higher Training and Consecration Rev. Janet Friedline, Instructor Date: Sunday, April 3, 2016, 9:00 am Prerequisite: The other 5 classes. This class stresses the transformation of consciousness from a sense-awareness of life to a Christ-awareness of life. It gently presents to the individual student an 4 opportunity to establish a spiritual basis from which to think and live. Sign-up Sheets have been placed on the table in the library. The classes run for 10 weeks; the cost is $65; people who have previously completed the class may audit and the cost is $35. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION On February 7, Jacqueline Scotland, delivered the Alumni Presentation, The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation. Jacquie told us that God is Light and we are extensions of this Light, this Love. She spoke of the importance of getting out of our minds and letting God think for us; of detaching from ourselves and being one with God. She illustrated this with personal examples of (1) as a child eating 2 huge ducanas and (2) recently crossing the street in the January snow coming face to face with a driver who hadn t seen her. Fear is the mother of all negative emotions. Knowing who we are and realizing our relationship with God replaces the fear with faith. Salvation is the love of God, the Light, expressing through us. Let us remember who we are. Many thanks to Janet Friedline for providing a lovely spread for us, to Tom for the black beans, and to Marva for the monkey bread. Please join us for the next Alumni Presentation on March 6 th when James Tomaski will speak. FLOWERS Thank you for signing up for flowers to decorate our sanctuary -- there are still a few dates available in 2016. The lovely flower arrangements or plants come from Whole Foods. The flowers cost $25 and you may

take them with you after the service. If you will not be here on your Sunday, you may give us special directions about what you want done with them or we will free-raffle them at the coffee hour after the service. EASTER LILIES A sign-up sheet has been placed on the table in the library where you may indicate how many lovely Easter lilies you would like to purchase to help decorate our sanctuary for Easter. The cost is $13. You may take them home after the Easter service and plant them, admire them or give them as gifts! DIVINE SCIENCE PRACTITIONERS Rev. Maria Borrero 202-302-3720 Rev.
