The heart has many dungeons. Bring the Light! Bring the Light! Mary Oliver Our culture needs the gift of hope more than any of the other theological virtues. The Revelation is a book that overwhelms us with hope - but is only accessible to us if we acknowledge our weakness, and that is awfully hard for us. We don't want to shed our facades, our pretentiousness. Marva Dawn Worship is the imagination station that incubates our loves and longings so that our cultural endeavors are indexed toward God and his kingdom. If you are passionate about seeking justice, renewing culture, and taking up your vocation to unfurl all of creation s potential, you need to invest in the formation of your imagination. You need to curate your heart. You need to worship well. Because you are what you love. James K. A. Smith Whatever your heart clings to and confides in, that is really your God. Martin Luther

CALL TO CONFESSION Prayer of Confession O my Savior, help me. I am slow to learn, prone to forget, and weak to climb; I am in the foothills when I should be on the heights; I am pained by my graceless heart, my prayerless days, my poverty of love, my sloth in the heavenly race, my sullied conscience, my wasted hours, my unspent opportunities. I am blind while the light shines around me: take the scales from my eyes, grind to dust my heart of unbelief. Make it my highest joy to know you, meditate on you, gaze on you, sit like Mary at your feet, lean like John on your breast, appeal like Peter to your love. I believe, help my unbelief. Amen Silent Confession Assurance of Pardon God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him! Romans 5: 8-9; John 3: 17 Before the Throne Before the throne of God above, I have a strong and perfect plea: A great High Priest whose Name is Love, Who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on his hands, My name is written on his heart I know that while in heav n he stands, No tongue can bid me thence depart No tongue can bid me thence depart. When Satan tempts me to despair, And tells me of the guilt within Upward I look and see Him there, Who made an end of all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, My sinful soul is counted free For God the just is satisfied, To look on Him and pardon me To look on Him and pardon me. Behold Him there the risen Lamb, My perfect spotless righteousness The great unchangeable I AM, The King of Glory and of grace One with Himself I cannot die, My soul is purchased by His blood My life is hid with Christ on high, With Christ my Savior and my God With Christ my Savior and my God. MESSAGE Living Today in the Light of That Day Clyde Godwin Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. 4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. 8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. 9 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet 11 saying, Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea. 12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. 19 Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this. 20 As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches. Revelation 1:3-20 This is the word of God for the people of God. Congregation: Thanks be to God. GATHERING AT THE LORD S TABLE *Children return to join their families.* The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Therefore let us proclaim the mystery of the faith. Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. PRAYER OF BELIEF Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen. We Will Feast in the House of Zion We will feast in the house of Zion, We will sing with our hearts restored He has done great things, We will say together, We will feast and weep no more We will not be burned by the fire, He is the LORD our God We are not consumed, by the flood, Upheld, protected, gathered up In the dark of night, before the dawn, My soul, be not afraid For the promised morning, oh how long? Oh God of Jacob, be my strength Every vow we ve broken and betrayed, You are the Faithful one And from the garden to the grave, Bind us together, bring shalom Sandra McCracken Josh Moore
For All the Saints For all the saints who from their labors rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia! Allelu... Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might; Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light. Alleluia! Allelu... O may Thy soldiers faithful, true, and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win with them the victor s crown of gold. Alleluia! Allelu... The golden evening brightens in the west; Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; Sweet is the calm of paradise the blest. Alleluia! Allelu... But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on his way. Alleluia! Allelu... From earth s wide bounds, from ocean s farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia! Allelu...
