Maker Fun Factory was Indeed Fun by Father Michael It was an amazing week here at Holy Cross with our annual Vacation Bible School. There was an abundance of life, energy, prayer, happiness and an occasional wave of chaos. There is a tremendous effort that goes into these days. The limited space we have is used with great efficiency and creativity. I am so grateful to all the helping hands that enable a program like this to come to life. It is a beautiful experience for all those involved. Thank you to all of you who supported VBS with your donation of supplies. As I write this article, it is the beginning of my fifth day of not having a computer. Apparently, my computer was hacked or infected with some kind of virus that required the machine to be taken from the office for a major overhaul. It is remarkable how dependent we become on these electronic wonders. I spent the week wandering up and down the office hallway looking for a computer that was available to me to commandeer for a few minutes. For me, it has been a week of unpleasant computer thoughts; for many of you, it has been unpleasant LIRR thoughts. Indeed, these things are an inconvenience, but all things considered there are greater evils we could be facing. Our progress in meeting our Catholic Ministries Appeal goal is slowing down. If you have not made a pledge or donation I ask you to consider doing so. With the help of everyone, we can support this important cause and meet our goal. Many thanks for your consideration and to all those who have already given. Last week I had a happy little adventure on my day off. The Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City closed last fall. I heard they were starting the liquidation sale, and I was able to be there for the second day. They are selling off the contents of the hotel. It is a neat experience as you can wander around the hotel looking at the many furnishings that are for sale. I was able to wander through some of the high roller suites and lounges. This sale was not as interesting as some others I had attended as they limited access and what they were selling to the lobby and several floors of guest rooms. Places like restaurants, the casino, and the convention center were not available. When I was chaplain at the high school, I was able to get a great deal on stage lighting for the auditorium from the old Sands Casino. This time, none of that type of item was available. I did pick up a nice wicker table that I can use on my patio, and I got a flat screen TV for Mom. It was a fun outing for the day. Our Outreach School Supplies Program is starting soon. Please keep an eye out for any early sales! 3
