Welcome to our worship - it's good to have you here with us. If you are visiting or here for the first time.. The Anglican Church teaches that all that are baptised in any Christian tradition are welcome to receive the sacrament at the time of communion. It is God's invitation to the table, if you feel so moved you are invited and welcomed. If you do not wish to receive communion but would like a blessing, please come forward and cross your hands over your chest. If you do not wish to drink wine from the chalice, please feel comfortable to receive the bread alone. Simply cross your arms over your chest so the Eucharistic assistant knows. Bulletin For any changes, corrections or additions to the Weekly Bulletin please let Joan Servent know at joanservent@gmail.com or call the church at 705 566-2790. Please share any contributions or suggestions of gratitude and future events to include in the coming weeks of the Weekly News or Bulletin. You can do this by emailing at ascension@vianet.ca or calling Joan Servent at (705) 690-9633 or the church at 705 566-2790. Flowers Please let Anne Trimmer know if you wish to donate flowers on the altar. Attendance on 28th May was 40 at 9am and 62 at 11am 2

Nord 500 North Nord 500 North is a two day conference, on September 21/22, that commemorates the 500 th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. It is an opportunity to address a critical moment of our Christian History boy moving beyond the controversies and disagreements that have often come between us and hindered our common work and witness. The cost is discounted up until July 1 st. The pamphlet is posted on the bulletin board if you wish to read up on the details. For additional information call Trinity Lu- 5

theran at 705 674-4834. Or email nord500north@gmail.com. Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will be held from August 14 to 18 at the Ascension, and July 5 to 9 at St. John the Divine. Pre-registration will be held at the BBQ May 28 for $10 per child, which includes a t-shirt. After July 1, the cost is $15. We will have different sized t-shirts on hand at the BBQ to try on. The curriculum is based on the theme Created by God, Built for a Purpose and it is well-suited for children aged 12 and under. If any youth or adults are interested in volunteering, please contact Jennifer Ames at 705 618-2319. If you have any questions about VBS, please contact Cindy Caines at 705 524-5394. If you are interested in sponsoring a child to attend VBS in the Deanery of Sudbury/Manitoulin, you can through the Sponsor a Child Program. A suggested donation of $20 helps to cover the cost of the following daily items: a craft, an imagination gadget, a takehome sheet as a reminder of the Bible story, and a daily scripture verse reminder. Any cheques should be made payable to St John the Divine Anglican Church, with the memo line stating VBS Sponsor a Child. Receipts for donation of $10 or more will be given. Envelopes with more information are available at the back of church. All donations must be submitted before July 1. Summer Exchange We are pleased to announce a summer exchange planned with the Church of the Epiphany. As is our tradition, starting on Sunday July 2nd, we move to one 10 am Eucharist service. For the month of July, we are excited to host our Epiphany neighbours, as Epiphany gives their clergy leadership a summer break. In exchange, during August, the Epiphany will host the Ascension at their 10:00 am Sunday Eucharist services so that our clergy can also have time off. The Ascension will offer Sunday Morning Prayer in August at 8:30 am. If you have any questions about this arrangement, please do not hesitate to talk to one of the wardens or 6

clergy. We ll be happy to answer any questions. Sudbury Symphony Orchestra On June 3rd 2017 the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra will be presenting Noye s Fludde. This is a delightful opera that tells the story of Noah and his Ark starring students from local elementary schools and the Young Sudbury Singers as well as professional opera singers Peter McGillivray and Pamela Teed. Thank you to all helpers of Children s Ministry for sharing their time and love of Christ with all the children of the parish. It s the generosity of each and every one of you that allows these precious little ones to grow in the love of God. Thank You Thank you to those who helped out, donated their time and participated in the Sunday School BBQ last Sunday. It s such a wonderful way to kick off the summer season! Thank you for your loose change donations to the Living Water Project collected by the ACW. The money raised helps to fund clean water for Northern Indigenous Communities. Thank you so very much to Paul Murdock for donating the bicycle. Its new owner has already put quite a few miles on it! Thank you for the clothing donations that have already been donated for the Elgin Street Mission. Despite the fluctuating weather conditions, they are eager to continue to receive summer clothing so keep sorting through to find gently used items to contribute. Thank you Cindy Derrenbacker sharing of your time and yourself in order to provide an exceptional Personal Day of Prayer yesterday. Thank you also to those who came out to participate. To share suggestions for gratitude, future events or updates to the bulletin please contact Joan Servent at joanservent@gmail.com or (705) 690-9633 or 705 566-2790. 7
