February 2019 NEWSLETTER Pastor Scott Welch Cell 330-205-9257 Email pastorscott@loveled.org A SEASON of CONSECRATION CCC Elders *Board Elders: *Marty Devitt *Tim Rush Stan Davala From February 3-March 9, we as a church family will be in a two part season of Prayer & Fasting called CONSECRATE. The first part of this season will be from February 3-February 17. It ll be a time of getting Biblically educated about what Prayer & Fasting is, what it s not, and how we ll appropriate the practical aspects of Prayer & Fasting. The second part of this season will be from February 17-March 9 in which we ll take that time to actually pray and fast together as a church. The second part of the season will include resources which will include the Sunday teachings on Prayer & Fasting, devotionals, and directions. These resources will be able to be found via our website www.loveled.org and on our facebook page. 330-735-2937 330-418-5691 216-218-4096 Board Trustees: Mark Mickley 330-627-7705 Adrian Tharp 330-627-5196 Teddy Stephens 330-705-7269 Superintendent Cheryl Mickley 330-575-0533 *** Ministry Support Assistant Heather Rosenberger Cell 330-904-8666 Email cccmsa@loveled.org Prayer Chain Heather Rosenberger Cell 330-904-8666 Christ Community Church family, So, why Prayer & Fasting and why should it interest you? To begin with let s take a look at the life of Jesus as it has to do with Prayer & Fasting... Matthew 6:16-18, 16 And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. CCC Online Jesus assumes the Church will fast, by implication He communicates that fasting is to be holy, that it is a secret act toward our Heavenly Father, and that God will reward us. www.facebook.com/mychrist community Luke 4:1-4, And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, He was hungry. 3 The devil said to Him, If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone. loveled.org #loveledchurch CCC Contact Information 20 East Main Street Dellroy, OH 44620 330-735-2127 cccmsa@loveled.org Jesus fasted and in the midst of His physical hunger, He points to the necessity of partaking of God s food, Holy Scripture. We want to follow His pattern.

We also see a pattern of Praying & Fasting from Jesus disciples Acts 13:2-3, 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. Praying & Fasting is something that God uses in the lives of His followers when a crucial and/or a strategic decision needs to be made. We, as follower of Christ want to be wise and God is pleased when we seek Him. One last look at the Scripture- Prayer & Fasting is seen in the Old Testament... Daniel 9:3-5, 3 Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking Him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. 4 I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, O Lord, the great and awesome God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from Your commandments and rules. Praying & Fasting can also be a tool of submission and repentance toward God. This practice is a necessary tool that makes us spiritually healthier. No matter how we look at Prayer & Fasting in the Bible, we can be assured of the following: God is pleased when we Pray & Fast. Prayer & Fasting is spiritually healthy for us. We are blessed when we Pray & Fast. Prayer & Fasting helps us to lay aside sin and helps us to hear God more clearly. And most of all, we become much closer to Christ. Specifically for us at Christ Community Church, we ve just entered a season where we re reading the Bible together through the High Five Challenge and I can t think of any better spiritual exercise that pairs better with that than prayer & fasting. Watch our posts on social media and at www.loveled.org for the directions, devotions and other resources that will sustain you during this time of prayer and fasting. Join us during these upcoming weeks as we glorify God together and get blessed from Him. Christ s blessings to you, Pastor Scott Welch
