Biographical/Historical Note In the year 1876 the First Baptist Church was organized in Prescott, Arkansas. At that time they allied themselves with the Union Association of Regular United Baptists. The congregation of eight members worshipped in the Ansley Academy on West Main Street on the second Sunday of each month. A frame church was built in 1877, and a Sunday School was added in 1884. Over the years at least three church structures and a parsonage have been built. The First Baptist Church in Prescott is currently affiliated with the Red River Baptist Association, the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. Scope and Contents Included in the First Baptist Church records are minutes of church meetings, correspondence, membership lists, Sunday School minutes, and Woman's Missionary Aid Society records. The earliest records are in ledger books. Later records were in ring binders, which have been moved to acid-free folders. These books and folders have been placed in date order.
