FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY FEBRUARY 10, 2019 TODAY'S WORSHIP Divine Service III LSB pages 184-202 L = Liturgist * = Stand C = Congregation PRELUDE 10:30 Orchestra of Peace Brethren, We Have Met To Worship Rejoice The Lord Is King WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS *OPENING HYMN The Star Proclaims the King is Here LSB 399 1. The star proclaims the King is here; But, Herod, why this senseless fear? For He who offers heav nly birth Seeks not the kingdoms of this earth. 2. The eastern sages saw from far And followed on His guiding star; And, led by light, to light they trod And by their gifts confessed their God. 3. Within the Jordan s sacred flood The heav nly Lamb in meekness stood That He, of whom no sin was known, Might cleanse His people from their own. 4. And oh, what miracle divine, When water reddened into wine! He spoke the word, and forth it flowed In streams that nature ne er bestowed. 5. For this His glad epiphany All glory, Jesus be to Thee, Whom with the Father we adore, And Holy Spirit evermore. *INVOCATION AND GENERAL CONFESSION L: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. BAPTISM (5:00 & 10:30) L: As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who love Him. C: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. L: Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, C: We have often strayed from Your ways and followed the desires of our own hearts. We have sinned against You and against one another. We have done the evil Your Word forbids. We often have not done the good Your Word requires. According to Your mercy, given us through Christ, forgive our sins. Grant us Your Spirit, that we may live in godliness, love, and faithfulness all the days of our lives. Amen. *THE ABSOLUTION C: Amen. *THE GLORIA PATRI (Taken from LSB, page 186) C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. *THE KYRIE C: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us.

*THE GLORIA IN EXCELSIS Taken from Lutheran Service Book pp. 187-189 (8:00 & 10:30) Glory be to God on high, And on earth peace, good will toward men. We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee, for Thy great glory. O Lord God, heav nly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For Thou only art holy; Thou only art the Lord. Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen. *THE COLLECT OF THE DAY L: The Lord be with you. C: And with thy spirit. L: Let us pray. C: Amen. THE OLD TESTAMENT READING for the fifth Sunday after Epiphany is recorded in Isaiah 6:1-8, page 571: (5:00, 8:00 & 10:30) 1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory! 4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts! 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for. 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here I am! Send me. L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. 8:00 Chancel Choir We Are Singing for the Lord Is Our Light THE EPISTLE READING is from I Corinthians 14:12b, 15-20, pages 960: 12b Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. 16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say Amen to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. L: This is the Word of the Lord. *ALLELUIA AND VERSE C: Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia. *THE HOLY GOSPEL - according to St. Luke, the fifth chapter, verses 1-11, page 860-861: C: Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 1 On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch. 5 And Simon answered, Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at

your word I will let down the nets. 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men. 11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him. L: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to Thee, O Christ. *THE APOSTLES' CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. CHILDREN S SONG (Sung as the children come forward) (8:00 & 10:30) 1. We will glorify the King of kings, We will glorify the Lamb; We will glorify the Lord of lords, Who is the great I AM. 2. He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth, He is Lord of all who live; He is Lord above the universe, All praise to Him we give. CHILDREN'S MESSAGE (8:00 & 10:30) Christina Stackle HYMN OF THE DAY Jesus, My Truth, My Way TLH 433 1.
