The St. Cecilia festival, the annual party for all of Oakley, is here. As your pastor, I can tell you that, like many of you, I look forward to this party every year. We spend so much time and energy to make this such a great event. It s been an exciting year working with our festival chairs, Doug and Joy Kornish. They have done an incredible job, and I want to give a big thank-you to them and all of our volunteers. Please come to the festival this year, and bring friends and family to share this wonderful event. This is a wonderful party for our whole region, so please join us. Take the time to volunteer, introduce yourselves to your many brothers and sisters in Christ, and enjoy the weekend. We all need others to help us in our Christian journey, and the people from your parish can be there for you. Spending time together at the festival builds this great bond. Together we can put on this huge event. Together we can build up the kingdom of God. Amen? Amen! STEWA R DSHIP OF FINANCE COLLECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING JULY 8 ST. ANTHONY $4,056.00 ST. I thank the family for allowing me to take part in this grand celebration. Also, right around the same time, my parents were married at St. Cecilia 60 years ago. My whole family was able to celebrate with them on a beautiful evening dinner and boat ride on the river (photo 6). It was great to celebrate such a special day together. 1 CON- GRATULATIONS! E ASTSIDE FAITH 6 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 A Summer with the Saints SAINT BERNADETTE Bernadette s parents were very poor. They lived near Lourdes, in France. One day, in 1858, while Bernadette was gathering firewood, a beautiful Lady stood in a cave before her. She was dressed in blue and white, and there were roses at her feet. She smiled at Bernadette and asked her to say the rosary with her. Bernadette saw the Lady eighteen times. Once the Lady said, I do not promise to make you happy in this world, but in heaven. Large crowds followed Bernadette to the grotto to say the rosary with her. They could not see the Lady. The Lady asked Bernadette to scrape the earth. The miraculous spring of Lourdes started to flow. Many pilgrims have been cured. When Bernadette asked the Lady her name, the Lady looked up to heaven and said, I am the Immaculate Conception. Her message was: Pray for sinners. She asked that a chapel be built near the grotto. Today this spot is a great shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Later, Bernadette became a nun. Her life was one of joyful suffering. She died at the age of thirty-six. O God, protector and lover of the humble, You bestowed upon Your servant Bernadette the favor of beholding the Immaculate Virgin Mary and of talking with her. Grant that we may deserve to behold You in heaven. Becoming Catholic Curious about the Church? Want to learn more? Call us today at 513-871-5757, ext. 215. Or join us for the next RCIA Inquiry Session, which will be on August 15 at 7 PM in the St. Cecilia Commons. Anyone interested in learning about the Catholic faith is invited and encouraged to come. The worship given to the Trinity of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit... must fill our churches also outside the timetable of Masses... This worship must be prominent in all our encounters with the Blessed Sacrament... Adoration of Christ in this sacrament of love must also find expression in various forms of Eucharistic devotion: personal prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, hours of adoration, periods of exposition short, prolonged, and annual (Forty Hours) Eucharistic benediction, Eucharistic processions, Eucharistic Congresses... Let us be generous with our time in going to meet him in adoration and in contemplation that is full of faith and ready to make reparation for the great faults and crimes of the world. May our adoration never cease. - St. John Paul II UPCOMING VOCATION EVENTS: October 16: Andrew Dinner at St. Margaret of York in Loveland November 16-18: Diocesan Discernment Retreat at the Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center More info at http://www.cincinnativocations.org.
