LORD S DAY January 31, 2016 COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH A Congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America Dr. Ron Gonzales, Minister Office: 5 W Alder St, Ste 237 Walla Walla, WA 99362 (509) 522-1020 E-mail: office@covenantwallawalla.org

Upon entering the sanctuary please maintain silence for the sake of the congregation s preparation for worship, and please make sure all electronic devices are turned off or set to silent mode. Welcome and Silent Prayer Lord of all power and might, Author and Giver of all good things: As we gather in your presence, graft in our hearts the love of your Name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and by your great mercy keep us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. -DRAWING NEAR TO GOD- *Call to Worship Psalm 34.1-3 *Prayer of Adoration *Song of Praise to God Hymn No. 6 O COME, MY SOUL, BLESS THOU THE LORD

-HAVING OUR HEARTS CLEANSED- Confession of Sin O Lord, you promised that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just and will forgive us. Humbly we come, seeking your forgiveness; that we may know the joy of your presence, the light of your face. You alone know our hearts: how often we have offended you, how often we have offended others. Forgive us, Lord, for every unkind thought, every false word, every wrong act. Forgive us, for we have lived not for you, but for ourselves. Forgive us for failing to give you thanks, for our neglect of prayer, our ignorance of your Word, our loss of purpose. Heavenly Father, have mercy on us. Create in us clean hearts, and renew a right spirit within us; by the blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Silently Add Your Own Confession of Sin Assurance of Pardon Micah 7.18-19 *Song of Praise to Christ Hymn No. 369 SHOUT, FOR THE BLESSED JESUS REIGNS Prayer for the Church and the World

-ATTENDING TO THE WORD- Scripture Lesson Isaiah 65.1-25 Sermon The Eagerness of God Rev. Ron Gonzales *Song of Response Hymn No. 76 PRAISE, MY SOUL, THE KING OF HEAVEN Worship of God with Tithes and Offering *DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. words Thomas Ken, 1709; music Genevan Psalter, 1551; Public Domain Confession of Faith What do you believe regarding the recovery of fallen man? We believe that our good God, by his marvelous wisdom and goodness, seeing that man had plunged himself in this manner into both physical and spiritual death and made himself completely miserable, set out to find him, though man, trembling all over, was fleeing from him. And he comforted him, promising to give him his Son, born of a woman, to crush the head of the serpent, and to make him blessed. The Belgic Confession, Article 17

OBSERVING THE SACRAMENT The Lord s Supper We celebrate the Lord s Supper by coming forward and partaking of the bread and the cup. Wine is served in the inner ring of each tray; grape juice in the outer ring. We warmly invite to the Table all baptized Christians, who are living under the authority of Christ and his body, the Church. By eating the bread and drinking of the cup, you are acknowledging that you are a sinner, without hope except in the sovereign mercy of God, and that you are trusting in Christ alone for salvation. *Song of Thanksgiving Hymn No. 705 I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED -GOING FORTH TO SERVE- *Benediction Numbers 6.24-26 Postlude and Silent Prayer God of mercy, you are full of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in mercy, and always ready to forgive. Grant us the grace to renounce all evil and to cling to Christ, that in every way we may prove to be your loving children, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. *Please stand if able Our Nursery Helpers Worship Today: TBA Sunday School Today: Peter & Jenni Early Next Week: TBA Next Week: Peter & Jenni Early

Pray for his safety and the safety of those serving with him, as well as for the success of their mission. Pray that he is spared pain in his final days, and the he and Gloria and their children and grandchildren are sustained by God s comfort and grace. The group is currently studying Genesis, and all men are invited. The Women s Group has just started a study of Ecclesiastes, a combination of wisdom and folly under the sun. Explanation of Cover Symbol In the Greek language of the early Christian era abbreviations were typically the first and last letters of words, often with a superscription to indicate the missing letters. IC is a standard abbreviation of IHCOYC, the Greek Jesus, XC the abbreviation of XPICTOC, Christ ; and NIKA means He conquers. The symbol then reads, Jesus Christ Conquers by the Cross or Jesus Christ, Victor.
