Words of Reflection: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" - which is the first commandment with a promise- "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6: 1-4 NIV Welcome: Prelude Organist/pianist Jeff Burke Call to Worship: Leader People: Leader: People: All: *Opening Hymn: selected verses of Psalm 68 May the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be joyful and happy. Sing to God, sing praise to his name, and rejoice before him. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing. Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. "How Great Thou Art" Hymn # 77 Opening Prayer: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who sets the solitary in families: We commend to your continual care the homes in which your people dwell. Put far from them, we pray, every root of bitterness and evil. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience and godliness. Bless husbands and wives and knit them together in constant love and affection. Turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. As Christians in the family of God, help us all have for each other kindly affection and love, for we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
