On this Sunday we culminate a week of services that have demonstrated the life-changing power of God, as we have traced the dramatic transformation of Saul, persecutor of the Christian community, into Paul, champion of Christ and apostle to the Gentiles. Today, we conclude this chronicle of Saul s conversion with a testament to the resurrection power of God in a message entitled, And Saul Was Consenting to his Death. As we consider the change that God s Spirit wrought in Paul, let us never forget that Easter is not simply a celebration of a divine power revealed in the raising Jesus of Nazareth from the dead. The ongoing testimony of God s Presence is the fact that the Holy Spirit is ever seeking to change our lives, calling us to demonstrate spiritual courage, commitment and transformation. The question of the morning is not, has Christ risen? The question is, has he risen in you, and called you forth to mature discipleship? On a personal level, Holy Week began for me with the smell of garlic. In preparation for our Mission Banquet on Palm Sunday, Melissa spent the previous Friday preparing vast amounts of spaghetti sauce. So, for several days our house has been redolent of garlic, which even my clogged sinuses could detect. But it was for a wonderful cause! I am happy to report that through your generosity we raised over $3,500 for our Puerto Rican mission trip! Thank you for your amazing response! And remember that our next mission fundraiser will be on Wednesday, May 16, our inaugural mission auction. Don t forget that if you want to offer items for the auction, contact Jim Jones. Also, this Easter morning is the first morning in several weeks when our house has not been littered with Easter Eggs. As the children of our church and community demonstrated yesterday, they don t take long to find over 4,000 Easter Eggs. But it takes a long time and a lot of people to stuff over 4,000 Easter eggs. I want to thank everyone who had a hand in providing candy for yesterday s Easter Eggstravaganza, or had a hand in stuffing those eggs, or helped us in staffing the sundry activities of this important community outreach. I confess to you, I haven t stuffed many eggs. But Melissa has been stuffing eggs for about three weeks, and our house had become a maze of baskets and bags containing thousands of eggs. In their absence, our house seems bigger. Again, thanks to you all! Thanks also go to the following people who have agreed to serve as deacons, having been elected during our services last week. They are: Kevin Clark, John Fry Sr., Peggy Hindsman,, Rick Jones, Harold McAbee, Michael O Neal, Pam Wacter, and Rob Wilson. Of these, Peggy Hindsman has not served as deacon before, and we will ordain her and install this new slate of deacons on Sunday morning, April 29, during a combined worship service. This is always a meaningful time of consecration and affirmation on the part of the entire congregation. Last weekend also marked the conclusion of our second Vineville Youth Basketball League, which culminated in the high school championship game on Saturday. I don t have space to thank them by name, but to all of the scorekeepers, clock operators, concession worker and referees who made this league possible, I express to you my deepest thanks. I live in your debt. Finally, I will have an opportunity next week to express in more detail my gratitude to the many of you who helped make this Holy Week so special, but let me just briefly say that I also live indebted to the great host of you who participated in this wonderful week of spiritual renewal. We may not hold what older generations called revivals any more, but Holy Week offers us an opportunity to recharge our spiritual batteries. Thanks to all who helped make it so. A word from your pastor, Dr. "To the historian there must always be something astounding in the magnitude of the task Paul set for himself, and in his enormous success. The future history of the civilized world for two thousand years, perhaps for all time, was determined by his missionary journeys and his hurried writings." W. R. Inge New Slate of Deacons We are grateful to the following deacons who support and serve Vineville Baptist Church and our church families: Kevin Clark John Fry Sr. Peggy Hindsman Rick Jones Harold McAbee Michael O Neal Pam Wacter Rob Wilson Peggy Hindsman will be ordained and the new slate of deacons will be installed on Sunday, April 29. We will have one service at 10:45 am.

Flowers The flowers in the sanctuary are given in loving memory of Barron Thorpe for his birthday on March 26 by his wife, Chris, and Graham, Carolyn, and Anne. Sympathy We extend Christian sympathy to the following families: The family of John Gibson. Dennis and Alethea Cook in the death of Alethea s aunt, Ruth Pearce and her uncle, Charles Hill. Paul and Betty Traylor in the death of Betty s sister, Ruth Roberts. In Memoriam John Gibson September 6, 1925 - March 25, 2018 Thank You, Jason Hall Jason Hall was the "voice of Jesus" coming from the balcony this past Wednesday night as a part of our Holy Week Wednesday program. We appreciated his participation in worship. Youth Today: No youth evening activities this afternoon. Happy Easter! Wednesday: We will continue to explore our conversation and Bible study about Prayer as mystery at 6:30 pm in the youth room. Next Sunday: Youth choir at 4:00 pm, dinner at 5:30 pm, and guys /girls small group until 6:15 pm. Men s Fellowship Postponed Due to Holy Week, Men's Fellowship normally scheduled for April 3, has been postponed until the next meeting on May 1. The May meeting will feature our very own and very talented Vineville Bluegrass group. You will not want to miss hearing them along with the usual good fellowship and delicious meal. Tickets are available for $5. Fall Bazaar Something new has been added for our 2018 Fall Bazaar: A White Elephant market! Bring us your bizarre and unusual items that would fit the White Elephant theme. These will make great gifts (gag, etc.) at Christmas or other occasions. Mark the container (or bag) White Elephant when you turn it in. Thanks for all you do for the Bazaar.
