WITNESS & EVANGELISM MINISTRY 8. A TASTE OF ALPHA WHAT IS A TASTE OF ALPHA? A 5-week journey exploring the basics of the Christian faith. WHY A TASTE OF ALPHA? Everyone should have the opportunity to explore the Christian faith, freely ask questions and share their point of view. WHO IS IT FOR? Non church-goers (please invite your family, friends and colleagues who are pre-believers) Young believers and church-goers who feel that they have not received the fundamentals of the Christian faith, or who wish to re-dedicate themselves to the Christian faith. HOW DOES THE COURSE WORK? Each session looks at a different topic surrounding the Christian faith. They explore the basics of Christianity addressing questions such as Is there more to life than this? Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How can we have faith? After watching an introductory video, the participants are put together into small groups of 8 to 12 people. These groups are hosted by leaders who facilitate conversation surrounding each topic. We believe food has a way of bringing people together and opening conversations in a community. This is the reason why we provide a sumptuous tea break at every session. It seems also to result in gross injustice as not everyone has had the same levels of opportunity to encounter and embrace the Christian faith. This session seeks to address these objections by helping us understand the claim within the narrative and framework of the Christian faith. Speaker: Leow Theng Huat is a lecturer of theology at Trinity Theological College. He is married to Cheng Ping, and they have three children. The family worships at Wesley Methodist Church. CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN Dr Ang was a lecturer in medicine at NUS (1971-1978) before becoming a Senior Consultant Paediatrician, founder and chairman of the specialist Thomson Paediatric group practice, based at Thomson Medical Centre since 1978. For more than 45 years in practice and having run two clinics, one for autism and the other for anti-ageing, Dr Ang has shown great interest in: Nutrition, which includes supplementations and weight management Immunology and allergy which include conditions like eczema and asthma. Developmental Paediatrics which includes biomedical management of Autism Spectrum Disorders. Healthy ageing management for adults. The depth and breadth of Dr Ang experience in clinical nutrition allows him to write, with authority, two books, The Wonders of Nutrition and Roadmaps to Recovery, in 2015. 13
BOYS BRIGADE MINISTRY 14. BB WEEK (3 MAR - 31 MAR) Since 1982, the Boys Brigade, 31st Singapore Company (sponsored by our church) continues to operate in Bowen Secondary School, with the purpose of reaching and ministering to those Boys whom God has entrusted to us. We thank God for His faithfulness and provision which has sustained this ministry for the past years. To enable us to continue our work in minds, building values, nurturing leaders and giving hope to our Boys, we depend very much on continued financial support from church members and friends like you.
