In the Orthodox Church, reception of the Holy Eucharist is reserved for baptized, chrismated Orthodox Christians who have prepared by prayer, fasting and a recent confession. If you are visiting from a non- Orthodox church or otherwise are not prepared to commune today, you are welcome to receive some of the unconsecrated, blessed bread which the acolytes are holding. We pray for all to be united in the Body and Blood of Christ! If you would like to learn how you can enter into communion with the Orthodox Church, please speak with our clergy.

THE EPISTLE V Blessed is He Who cometh in the Name of the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Philippians. (4:4-9) Brethren, rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, these do; and the God of peace will be with you. THE GOSPEL The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (12:1-18) Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus who had died was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at table with Him. Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, Simon s son, one of His Disciples (he who was to betray Jesus), said, Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? This he said, not because he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the moneybox he used to take what was put into it. Jesus said, Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of My burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have Me. When the great crowd of the Jews learned that He was there, they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus. The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying, Hosanna! Blessed is He Who cometh in the Name of the Lord, the King of THE GOSPEL (CONTINUED) Israel! And Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey s colt! His Disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of Him and had been done to Him. The crowd that had been with Jesus when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet Jesus was that they heard He had done this sign. SAINTS & FEASTS OF THE DAY Palm Sunday: Entrance of Our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem A GOOD WORD VITAMINS FOR THE SOUL O Thou Who ridest upon the cherubim, and Who art praised by the seraphim, Thou didst ride upon a colt, O holy, Davidic One. And the youths were praising Thee as befitteth God. And the Jews did blaspheme against Thee wickedly. Thy sitting on an ass foreshadowed the transformation of the bolting of the Gentiles from infidelity to faith. Glory to Thee, O Christ, Who alone art merciful and the Lover of mankind. Great Vespers Aposticha for Palm Sunday Today hath the Savior come to Jerusalem to fulfill the Scriptures; and all did take in their hands branches of palm trees. And they spread their clothes for Him, knowing that it was He, our Lord, to Whom cherubim unceasingly call out, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed art Thou Who art possessed of bountiful mercies: have mercy upon us. Aposticha for Palm Sunday O immortal Lord, Thou hast bound Hell, slain Death, and raised the world: therefore the children, carrying palms, sing praise to Thee as Victor, O Christ, and they cry aloud to Thee this day: Hosanna to the Son of David! For no more, say they, shall the little children be slain because of Mary s Child; but Thou alone art crucified for all, both young and old. No more shall the sword be drawn against us, for Thy side is pierced by a spear. With great rejoicing, then, we cry: Blessed art Thou that comest to call back Adam. Oikos from Matins for Palm Sunday

His Eminence The Most Reverend Metropolitan JOSEPH Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of All North America ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN ARCHDIOCESE OF NORTH AMERICA Beloved in the Lord: Palm Sunday 2018 To Be Read from the Pulpit and Printed in the Bulletin A blessed feast of our Lord s triumphant entry into Jerusalem to you and your families. I pray you all completed a spiritually rewarding and are now ready to enter into Passion Week which culminates with our Lord s glorious resurrection from the dead next Sunday as we celebrate Great and Holy Pascha. Today, as we rejoice in this feast, we also pause to take time to remember our beloved Mother Church headed by our Patriarch, His Beatitude JOHN X. We were blessed to have him make a short visit to us last fall to bring the message of peace and love to our government leaders in the United States. We pray that our Lord will bless him and all the people of that area of the world that continues to endure suffering and pain on a daily basis. Each year on this special day, we ask you, the faithful of our God-protected Archdiocese for an offering of love to send to His Beatitude from his spiritual children here in North America. His Beatitude faces an enormous challenge as he tries to alleviate the pain and suffering of those affected by the war in Syria and the effects of the same war on his flock in Lebanon, Iraq and other areas. With hundreds of thousands of displaced people as a result of the civil war, the needs and demands on our Patriarchate are great. Churches have been destroyed and vandalized by terrorists and families have been driven from their homes and are in desperate need of our help. With that in mind, we hope you will be as generous as possible. Wishing you a prayerful Holy Week and a most joyous Pascha, I remain, Your Father in Christ, +JOSEPH Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of all North America The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch (Acts 11: 26) 358 Mountain Road, P.O.
