Dear Parishioners: Stewardship is more than giving money, it is giving time and skills and prayer and thought to support our beloved cathedral. Good stewardship means budgeting our time and energy and attention to living the gospel. It means analyzing life s priorities and not counting costs; it means being aware that someday we shall have to give an account of ourselves before God. The base from which we serve as the Voice of Christ in a Changing World is the parish. A strong parish provides opportunities for sharing the Good News of Christ, for welcoming those that are searching for a spiritual home, and a base from which we are sent out into the world as witnesses. To be stewards of the Gospel, we need to be stewards of our parish. We are called to offer ourselves and our treasure to make our Saint Sophia Cathedral all that is can be. Saint Sophia Cathedral and its facilities continue to be a home for our ministry programs in the areas of Youth, Seniors and Outreach. It is a place where the community comes together, children as well as adults, to study and learn, participate in athletic events, express themselves creatively and artistically, and celebrate life. What a blessing! When believers unite to give, an undeniable power results. Generous giving makes a personal faith statement and exemplifies the essence of believing, belonging and supporting our Orthodox Christian Family. We are lovingly requesting that all parishioners freely declare their annual commitment to Saint Sophia Cathedral by submitting a Stewardship Commitment Card. The Stewardship Commitment Card should be completed and returned to the Church Office. They are located in the Narthex by the candles. Saint Sophia is a place to believe, belong and be loved. Thank you and may God richly bless you! Yours in Christ, V. Rev. Father John S. Bakas, Dean 11

Clean out your closets at home or conduct your own clothing drive at school, work or in your neighborhood. This, St. Sophia's 15th annual 5 TONS OF LOVE clothing drive will take place over the next several weeks. Clothing may be dropped off at the St. Sophia Sunday school office. For more information please contact, Fr. Christopher Kolentsas, Eleni Yokas or Dean & Christina Peratsakis @ 818-351- 0122 or dotos@msn.com. Volunteers needed. Thank you. 13

For over two decades, Father John Bakas has walked the city streets surrounding St. Sophia Cathedral with a trash picker in one hand and a trash bag in the other. He has picked up items as small as gum wrappers to as large as living room sofas. Over the past twenty years Father John has taken the time to involve his assistant priests in the effort to clean our neighborhood, the Byzantine Latino Quarter. Handfuls of priests have left this Cathedral to serve in other communities, and they all have greatly benefited from serving our neighborhood community. At this time, we the clergy of St. Sophia Cathedral are calling upon each and every abled bodied parishioner of St. Sophia Cathedral to assist us with cleaning our city streets. We ask that you please consider joining the team that has been affectionately named The Picker s Brigade. We will be meeting as a team on the third Sunday of every month after coffee hour. Our first street cleanup will take place on Sunday March 18, 2018. Aprons, rubber gloves, trach bags and pickers will be provided. Commit thy works unto the Lord and thy thoughts shall be established (Proverbs 16:3. ) 14
