Also, please consider praying for vocations or spiritually adopting a priest as part of your daily prayers. For more information see vocations@diobrook.org Page 7

MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND The care of parishioners who are sick and homebound is very important to the life of any parish and the ministers who participate in their care are clear signs that the community remembers those who no longer can attend church services because of age or illness. Saint Luke Parish is very fortunate to have Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who are devoted to the sick and homebound, some in their own homes and some in the Queens Rehabilitation Center. The ministers are very generous with their time as they visit the sick and homebound praying with them and bringing them holy communion. If you know someone who is in need of a minister s visit with holy communion, please contact Sister Theresa at (718) 746-8531 or (718) 746-8102 and arrangements will be made as soon as possible. *************************************************************************** BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP A Bereavement Support Group provides a safe place where people who are grieving the loss of loved ones can share their experiences with others who are in similar situations, who have similar concerns and who are better able to understand the grief process. Our Bereavement Group at Saint Luke Parish currently meets on the first Tuesdays of each month at 7:30pm. The next meeting of the Bereavement Group will take place on Tuesday, May 5 in the Pastoral Center. If you need further information or if you are interested in attending the bereavement sessions, please contact Sister Theresa at (718) 746-8531 who facilitates the group and who also offers Bereavement Counseling where needed. ************************************************************************** Meeting for Consolation Ministers: Our Consolation Ministry at St. Luke offers assistance and concern for our parishioners at the time of the death and burial of loved ones. These ministers strive to offer the compassion of Christ to others at very difficult times and in painful circumstances. There will be a meeting of our Consolation Ministers on Thursday, May 7th at 7:30pm in the St. Matthew Room of our Pastoral Center. Any minister unable to attend is asked to contact Sister Theresa at (718) 746-8531. Anyone who is interested in serving the community as a consolation minister or in learning more about this very important ministry should also contact Sister Theresa. Let us remember to pray for those in our parish who are grieving the loss of loved ones and let us also pray for the caring ministers of consolation who assist them in this time of suffering and loss. Lenten Lessons in Nursery Mrs. Kenny s nursery class had some wonderful experiences as they prepared for Easter during the season of Lent this year. First, we had a Good Deeds Jar in our classroom. Working together with the parents, Mrs. Kenny encouraged the children to do many acts of kindness on a child s level at home. Then, the parents wrote these good deeds on colored paper. The next day, the child got to come up and talk about their good deed and put the pretty colored paper in the clear jar. We now have a colorful jar filled with good deeds in our classroom. The children all learned from each other and got new ideas about nice things they could do as well. They wanted to do good deeds to be more like Jesus. Secondly, we had a Caring Can. The children took turns bringing in coins to put in the decorated can because they wanted to help those who have less than they do. Towards the end of lent, Mrs. Kenny brought the coins to TD bank and changed them into bills. Then, we went into St. Luke Church to pray and deposit over $36.00 into the poor boxes! Congratulations Nursery 2, you and your parents did a wonderful job! Page 15
