The United Nations (UN) on October 5, 2018 observed the World Teachers Day. Theme: The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher. The world observes October 5 as World Teachers Day to commemorate the Teaching in Freedom pact signed on October 5, 1966 in Paris. As per the UN, there is a wide teacher gap and to reach the 2030 education goals of universal primary and secondary education, the world needs to hire close to 69 million new teachers.

During the 19th India-Russia Annual Bilateral Summit held on October 4-5, 2018 in New Delhi, the two countries signed the contract for the supply of the S-400 Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile System to India at a cost of $5.43x billion. The two sides also signed 8 agreements on trade, railways, nuclear field and MSME sector. Russia also agreed to train astronauts for India's first crewed space mission "Gaganyaan" in 2022. About S-400 Missiles S-400 Triumf missile system is arguably the world's most lethal surface-to-air missile system. It is an anti-aircraft weapon system developed in the 1990s by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau. China was the first nation to buy the S-400 missile system in 2014. The king of mangoes, Alphonso, better known as Hapus in Maharashtra. About GI tag As a signatory to WTO, India enacted GI Act, 1999 which came into force in 2003. India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) on October 5, 2018 signed a $110 million loan to finance the upgrade of 2,800 kilometers all-weather rural roads in Madhya Pradesh under the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Program (PMGSY). Tranche 2 loan is part of the $500 million Second Rural Connectivity Investment Program for India was approved by the ADB Board in December 2017. Second Rural Connectivity Investment Program aims to improve about 12,000 kilometers rural roads across the states of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. Tranche 1 loan of $250 million is currently under implementation in the 5 project states, upgrading over 6,000 km of rural roads.

The Northeast and Assam Petro-chemicals, a state-owned company, on October 5, 2018 launched Asia's first cannisters based and India's first "Methanol Cooking Fuel Program" in Namrup, Assam. The program was inaugurated by Dr V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog and Chairman, Methanol Apex Committee. 500 households inside the Assam Petro Complex will be the first pilot project. It will scaled to 40,000 households in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Goa and Karnataka. The safe handling cannister based cooking stoves will be a technology transfer from Sweden. 1.2 litres cannisters can last for full five hours on twin burners and 8 such Cannisters as rack can last for one month for a family of three.
