November 13, 2016 LAITY SUNDAY Laity Sunday For declares the We often get told how important it is to have a plan. Try to build a house or an airplane without one and you can imagine that things don t work out so well. We have many jobs that revolve around helping us to make plans: wedding planner, financial planner, city planner. These all point to the truth that having plans is indeed important, and we can see their value in many aspects of life. And yet, you don t have to live this life all that long to see the clear evidence that things don t always work out as we had planned. The promotion doesn t happen, the knee will require surgery, or the new job is in a different city. But we see the words of Jeremiah and we remember the saying, God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. Could it be that God s plans are sometimes radically different than our own? plans to PROSPER you and not to harm you, PLANS to give you Hope and a Jeremiah 29:11 In times when our own plans turn out to be a mess, God calls us to put our trust in Him. We do not need to fear, but rather through faith with prayer and thanksgiving we trust in God to lead us. As we look to the future of our own lives and our collective lives as God s church at Oak Grove, let us remember that although we would be poor stewards to approach the future without a plan, we ultimately place our trust in God and ask for guidance in both difficult and easy times.
