Over 100,000 pastors were recently challenged to push our congregations to engage in this issue. There was a three-point plan. 1. Preach about it. I think I have this one covered! :) 2. Pray about it. On September 9 th we will be praying specifically for our congressional representatives from Iowa as a part of the worship service. 3. Phone our congressional representatives and urge them to stop using tax dollars to support this criminal organization. So beginning in the month of September, I want to challenge every single one of you to actually pick up the phone and call your representative and tell them, Please stop using my tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood. And let them know that a vote to defund Planned Parenthood that has no real hope of passing isn t cutting it anymore. In the month of September Congress will be voting on Government funding. Now is the time! Why am I making such a big deal out of this? Because it is a big deal to God. There are six thing which the LORD hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him; haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run rapidly to do evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife among brothers. Proverbs 6: 17-16-19 We have blood on our hands. And there must be more than a sorrowful knowledge of what God hates. There must be a turning away from it! Now is our moment to do so. Will you commit to calling all of the Congressional Representatives from Iowa during the month of September? Maybe just once, maybe every day. I know what counts is action. They do indeed listen to these calls. And if they are overwhelmed by the number of calls coming in then we have a real chance of persuading them to do the right thing. Book Look As I am beginning to go through my Bible study library, it came to me that the study, and more important, the appreciation and application to our lives of the Psalms is overlooked. The three volume study will be in the library one volume at a time-so that it can progress in an orderly manner. Volume One: Songs of Devotion will be followed by Volume Two: Songs of Devotion, and volume three Psalms of Discipleship. As a nucleus for Bible study in a group or individually it would be a good preparation for Christmas and a new year in Christ. People around the world are being offered help and hope in the name of Jesus. IDES has worked in more than 90 different countries, and continues to help in about 250 projects each year. A Few of IDES Recent Projects: - Provided food for a feeding program in Haiti. - Provided medical kits to missionaries. - Provided funds for 950 sacks of rice. - Helped with funding, volunteers, and supplies to areas hit by flooding in the United States. - Provided funds for Bibles in Kenya. - Helped with funds to rebuild a church in Nepal. - Provided funds to purchase medicines for a clinic in Asia. - Helped rebuild a church after a disaster in India. - Provided $20,000 to help drill a well in Kenya. - Sent $6,000 to purchase cows for a development project in Asia. For I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink Matthew 23:35 Starting in September, we as a church, will be memorizing a Scripture each month until we have 12 memorized! The Scripture will be in the bulletin each week for a month at a time. We will say it together with the Scripture reader each Sunday morning. Each Wednesday night we will say it together as a group before we split off to our age appropriate classes. We will also provide a card for you to take home as another tool for memorization help. When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert (Matthew 4), He used scripture as a weapon against the force of darkness. If Jesus memorized and used Scripture, how much more should we do the same! Fort Facts Total Income for July: $10,861.18 Total Expenses for July: $13,074.82 Wednesday Evenings beginning September 9th at 6:00pm JAM 2-4yrs ABC Jesus Loves Me is the curriculum that will be used to teach the little ones during the Wednesday night and Sunday morning classes. The children will learn the Creation account in the book of Genesis this fall. After Christmas they will learn about how Jesus takes care of them! Each time we meet the children will participate in many fun activities to help them learn about the Lord!! Kingdom Kids -- 5 yrs - 5th grade -- Children will learn about the Beginning of the World through stories about Creation, Noah, Abraham and Isaac and how each story points to Jesus. Each night is filled with a variety of activities, including music, snacks, crafts, and games. CIA 6th grade-12th grade Justin and Lindsay will be leading this group through 12 teaching sessions by Mark Driscoll entitled Vintage Jesus. This study of the life of Jesus calls us all to examine the Truth about Him in a world that desires to water down or even exclude some of the key points in scripture relating to who Jesus was and how He changed history. The Adults will be going through the Scriptures to answer many questions ranging from Is Jesus divine? to What happens to a person s soul if they commit suicide? Sunday School for ALL ages starts on September 13th at 9:00am! Children 2-4 years will meet in the JAM room (off the nursery) and will be taught by Shannon. Children 5yrs-1st grade will meet in the room off the sanctuary and will be taught by Bev, Dorothy, and Stephanie. Children ages 2nd grade-5th grade will meet in the Jr. Church room and will be taught by Cleo, Julie and Debbie. Kids 6th grade-12th grade will meet in the CIA room and be taught by Justin and Lindsay. Adults will meet in the sanctuary and be taught by Mike.
