May 28 May 27, 2018 Memorial Day Prayer Dear Lord, On this day, we remember those who have served us by protecting our freedoms. When we celebrate our long weekend with our family and friends, help us remember, that our freedom to speak of you, and our freedom to worship you and our freedom to do that which we ought to do, have been bought at the price and sacrifice of many lives. Your son died for our eternal life in heaven. So, too, your children died protecting us here on earth. Help us be mindful this weekend and always of the sacrifices made by those in uniform for all our freedoms. Amen.

In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning "household management." The economic Trinity is our three-personed God's relationship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing relationship with us. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with one another in community. However, this is not limited only to those close to us, though that's where love often starts. We also imitate the economy of God when we go out, when we extend our love and care in a life-giving way. Go therefore? Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations," to the margins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create something beautiful-a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you creating something beautiful? Question of the Week: What can I do to proclaim the Good News of Jesus and help people fall in love with Him? What can I do to be a witness of Jesus and to live as his disciple? Some studies suggest that as many as one in six boys and one in four girls will be the victim of some form of sexual molestation before the age of 18. that means that, directly or indirectly, child sexual abuse will touch most of us during our lifetime. And although we would like to believe that most accusations are false, the facts tell us that children rarely lie about being molested. In fact, they rarely tell anyone at all. An adult study about the prevalence of sexual abuse found that 42% of the men and 33% of the women who were victimized as children had never told anyone. Page Five Queen of the World Church, St. Marys, Pennsylvania May 27, 2018 Dear Parishioners, This holiday weekend unofficially open our summertime with the notion of remembrance. that is so appropriate, since we should always begin any endeavor by remembering how we got to that point and expressing our gratitude. We remember those who died, especially in the military, as Jesus says, laying down one s life for others. We also prayerfully recall all our beloved who have gone home to the Lord. This kind of remembering is one thing - for we can weep or smile at the memories, miss those who have died, and keep in touch with the values and reasons they are important to us. But there is additional meaning in the notion of remembrance as a people of faith that doesn t happen because it s Memorial Day. Jesus taught us what it means to remember. In the language of His Jewish faith, remembering is not just the recalling of history. That s only the first step. The Jewish people also believed that as they recalled the sacred events of their past, God becomes present in the very act of remembering. In other words, because God is eternal and timeless, Divine Presence is with us just as much now as when that action first took place. The premier examples of this is the Exodus. As it was recalled year by year, the Jewish people experienced the saving Presence of God each in their own day. That is why Jesus sat at the Passover meal with His disciples. But now, He re-interprets those events so that in a new way, HE would be ever-present to us, His disciples. Whenever you do this, Remember Me, He said. And in remembering Him, He would be present in the elements of the meal and in those who shared it. THAT S WHY WE REMEMBER! Not just as a lesson from history, but as a new experience of God s compassion, mercy, and salvation in Jesus. On this Memorial Day weekend, we are preparing to celebrate next weekend s Feast of Corpus Christi, a special day to honor the Lord in the Eucharist, that Greatest of the Sacraments. We recall not just the Last Supper, but all that Jesus said and did that is preserved for us, so that we would remember. That is, so that we would experience His Presence here and now. And, also, that we would BE His Presence for others. Whenever we do Eucharist, we are not just thinking about the past. We are not just thinking! We are experiencing the most awesome mystery of Life all over again. Now that s a memorial. - - - fr jeff FIRST FRIDAY Friday, June 1st is First Friday. Join us for Mass at 7 am or at 8:45 am, which is the final Mass of the year for our Elementary School students, as they finish their year a little later that morning. Fr. Jeff and Eucharistic ministers will be visiting the homebound that morning and earlier is the week as well. If someone in you home needs to be added to the list, please call the rectory, 834-4701 Tuesday morning. Confessions will take place Thursday at 4 pm. Remember to join us sometime Thursday for Adoration as well. This special parish prayer time begins after the 7 am Mass and continues through Evening Prayer and Benediction at 6:30 pm. MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND This weekend, and especially tomorrow, we remember those who paid the price of their lives in service to our nation to preserve the freedom and blessings we cherish as citizens. By the way of extension, we remember all our loved ones who have died, asking the Lord to bless them with Eternal Life. We also show our respect to those who have served us and continue to serve us in the military. May God watch over those who watch over us. Join us for Mass Monday morning at 7 am before we enter into the festivities of the parade and our family gatherings for this first holiday of summer. We welcome those who have come home for the holiday, especially our young people returning from college and we welcome our visitors. Thank you for coming to pray with us. THE FEAST OF THE HOLY TRINITY The Easter Season is behind us and we have returned to Ordinary Time, the succession of Sundays and weekdays that help us to recognize the Presence of our Savior in the Eucharistic celebration and in our lives, guided by the Word of God and the grace of the Sacraments. Today and next Sunday, we honor our Lord with special feasts. Today we recall the nature of divinity as One yet known to us as a Trinity of Persons. This is the first mystery of faith. Next Sunday we celebrate the Eucharist in a special way as Jesus lasting gift so us. His Body and Blood given for our redemption. See the notes elsewhere in our bulletin about our special way of honoring our Lord in the Eucharist here in St. Marys.
