B l a c k s t o n e V a l l e y C h a p t e r # 4 7 3 5 September 2012 Head HOG Special Points of Interest Web Site: www.blackstonevalleyhog.com Swine Line: 978-316-1876 Believe it or not, it s the month of September already and our annual barbecue is just around the corner. The Texas Road House will be catering the affair as they did last year. The cost is $10.00 for members and $11.00 for non-members and will be held on Thursday evening, September 13 at 7:00 PM. There will be a short meeting to discuss nominations followed by the meal. As all of you are aware, 2012 is an election year for the chapters primary officer s positions which we will be voting on during the upcoming October meeting. The nomination period for the four primary positions was opened at the August meeting and will be closed at the barbecue just prior to the meal. Nominations to date are as follows; Susan Lynch was nominated for Treasurer and accepted the nomination. Ed Blair was nominated for Treasurer but declined the nomination. Bill Mendes was nominated for Secretary but declined the nomination. Mark Legere was nominated for Assistant Director and accepted the nomination. Inside This Issue : Deputy HOG & Over the Shoulder and a look back Activities Roundup & Upcoming Events September Birthdays 4 New Members, Officers, Hospitality & Dealer Info 2 3 5 Jim Gildea, Chuck Ehrenberg and Firm Locke were each nominated for the Directors position but all three wished to hold off accepting or declining until the night of the barbecue. Just remember that whoever you nominate must be prepared to accept the nomination and complete the two year term of office if elected. Also remember that in order to be eligible for office, a member must have been in the chapter at least a year. Note that only members who have paid their dues for 2012 will be admitted to the October meeting and as such are eligible to vote. If you have not paid your dues, you will not be admitted to the meeting. You cannot pay your dues the night of the meeting. You must pay them in advance of the October meeting. The patches for the Nation of Patriots are available for the people who asked for them. The Homes for the Troops patches are also available. And finally, remember to check the Blackstone Valley event calendar for scheduled rides/events you may want to attend. And don t forget to check the swine line for current updates prior to leaving for the event as it will always have the latest information regarding meeting time, destination changes and/or cancellations. Hope to see all of you at the September Barbecue. Until then, Ride Safe.Firm P r e c i s i o n H a r l e y - D a v i d s o n

Page 2 Deputy HOG Hello BVH, It's me again. I gotta tell ya, you missed a "good time with Blackstone" at the MA/RI Rally this year. I think everyone who attended had a good time. Even better than that is the fact that you only have to listen to me talk about the rally at one more meeting. Next year the Rally will be a 5 state rally, VT, NH, MA, RI, and CT. It will be held at Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, VT. I will be attending a meeting there on Sept. 8th and will have info available at the September BBQ and the October meeting. Now for the really big news, Sept. 15th is the 10th (yes you read it right) the 10th Annual Red's Eats Ride. "What is Red's Eats" you ask, well it's a tiny, little Lobster Shack in Wiscassett, ME ( approximately 200 miles from Manmar) that has the best lobster roll. But don't go just for the lobster, we have people that go for the very ordinary burger or dog. "Why would they do that?" you ask, because it's a GREAT ride and another "good time with Blackstone". If you're planning on going don't have any other plans for the day because we leave at 7 am and get home about 7 pm. We do however incorporate a stop at LA Harley-Davidson if we can, but that depends on the "Ride Home Road Captain". I lead the ride up on the highway and Dave Miller leads us home by way of some of the most beautiful riding roads you'll ever be on. I'll have you know this is the longest newsletter article I have written as AD, good god aren't you glad someone else will be taking over. As always, Ride Safe AD Dave Over the shoulder and a look back. Kimball Farms Run August 19th Kevin Shea 28 bikes, 2 trikes, 36 riders and a smiling dog with goggles!! Yup, it s a first a real dog accompanied us almost all the way there! It was a picture perfect 70 degree day, which made for a great ride. It was a little tough getting through some of the shorter stop lights, but thanks to Joe and Dave, radio contact kept our group together for the most part. We traveled some great back roads. However, our usual stop at Dunkin s became a parking nightmare. The lot was good for 10 bikes so 30 was a real stretch. But we made it work and left without incident! One unexpected quick stop for a bike that had minor issues but was able to keep going. We arrived at Kimball Farms around 1 pm and the place was slammed. The line for food was long but went quick. The food was great and there is a lot to see there. Afterwards most riders went their own way home but 6 bikes took a scenic side-tour to Concord Center and the Concord Bridge. It was a beautiful spot worth going back at another time. Unfortunately at the end of our side tour the remaining 6 bikes lost track of each other but at the end of the day everyone made it home safe and sound - thanks to their GPS!! Road Captain Kevin Shea

Page 3 Activities Roundup Wow, it s September already! Hopefully you have enjoyed some of the rides the activities committee has put together and hard work the road captains put in designing the perfect route. Fall riding is upon us, old man winter will be knocking on the door soon, if you have not ridden with us yet, what are you waiting for? Our calendar still has plenty to offer, but if you don t see the destination you wanted, please either forward your ideas to me or attend one of the activities meetings. Hope to see you on a few!
