Collect for Purity BCP 355 Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Song of Praise This Is The Feast Of Victory For Our God Hymnal 417, v. 1 The Collect of the Day The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray.silence. O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Please be seated. The Psalm Psalm 104: 25, 31-35, 37 Please join me in praying the psalm responsively by half-verse. 25 O Lord, how manifold are your works! * In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. 31 You send forth your Spirit, and they are created; * and so you renew the face of the earth. 32 May the glory of the Lord endure for ever; * may the Lord rejoice in all his works. 33 He looks at the earth and it trembles; * He touches the mountains and they smoke. 2

34 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; * I will praise my God while I have my being. 35 May these words of mine please him; * I will rejoice in the Lord. 37 Bless the Lord, O my soul. * Hallelujah! The Epistle Acts 2: 1-21 A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. 5 Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6 And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7 Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs-- in our own languages we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power." 12 All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" 13 But others sneered and said, "They are filled with new wine." 14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15 Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning. 16 No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: 17`In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. 19 And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. 20 The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord's great and glorious day. 21 Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' " The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Please stand. Gospel Acclamation Sing three times in unison. Music: Calvin Hampton 3

The Gospel John 20: 19-23 Deacon The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, Lord Christ. 19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. Deacon Alleluia sing twice. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Please be seated. Sermon A period of silent meditation follows the sermon. Jim Clark The Nicene Creed Please stand as we affirm our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed. All We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the You may remain standing, kneel, or be seated as we pray. (silence) Risen Christ, open our hearts to your love; through you, let us radiate peace. We pray: Lamb of God, in you we are one Body; bring renewed life to your church and all those who seek you. Be present with the candidates for the Bishop of Arizona and with the people of our diocese as we choose a new bishop. We pray: Prince of Peace, yours is the way of reconciliation; guide all nations toward forbearance, equity, and justice. We pray: 4

Christ Jesus, help us see your face in those who suffer, particularly, Carolyn, Peter (Barnes), Don (Bolazina), Connie (Gowers), Janet (Hand), Rich (Hand), Kent (Klein), Jim (Lanigan), Gene (Lemon), Dorothy (Lincoln-Smith), Barry (Markowitz), Helaine (Markowitz), Peter, Frank (Seekins), Jenn (Steege), Pat (Toombs), Dean (Vidal), Steve (Williams), (silence). May we extend your hope and healing to all your people. We pray: Risen Christ, you transformed death; welcome those who have died, (silence)... and console those who grieve for them. We pray: silence...gracious God, we praise you for the life that is ours in the Risen Jesus. Send us your Spirit that we may always live in your love. We pray through Christ our hope. Amen. Please stand. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you. The congregation greets one another with a sign of God s peace: a handshake, hug, smile, or nod along with the greeting, Peace or The Peace of the Lord are all wonderful gestures of sharing in this time together. Also feel free to ask someone s name and/or to introduce yourself so we can get to know one another better! The Announcements At this time, we hear about news and upcoming events in the life of Saint Barnabas. Please be seated. If you have a birthday or anniversary or other special time of celebration in your life, please come forward when it's announced for a blessing. The Holy Communion and Healing Prayers The Bidding Clergy Let us with gladness offer ourselves and the fruits of our life and labor to our God from whom, through whom, and to whom are all things. And let us remember the words of scripture: Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. Offertory Anthem Veni, Sancte Spiritu Music: Morten Lauridsen from Lux Aeterna, Mass for Pentecost Veni, Sancte Spiritus, et emitte caelitus lucis tuae radium. Veni, pater pauperum, veni, dator munerum, veni, lumen cordium. Consolator optime, dulcis hospes animae, dulce refrigerium. In labore requies, in aestu temperies, in fletu solatium. O lux beatissmia, reple corids intima tuorum fidelium. Sine tuo nomine, nihil est in homine, nihil est innoxim. Come, Holy Spirit, send forth the heavenly radiance of your light. Come, father of the poor, come, giver of gifts, come, light of the heart. Greatest comforter, sweet guest of the soul, sweet consolation. In labor, rest, in heat, temperance, in tears, solace. O most blessed light, fill the inmost heart of your faithful. Without your grace there is nothing in us, nothing that is not harmful. Cleanse that which is unclean, water that which is dry. Heal that which is wounded, bend that which is inflexible, fire that which is chilled, correct what goes astray. Give to your faithful, those who trust in you, the sevenfold gifts, grant the reward of virtue, grant the deliverance of salvation, grant eternal joy. 5

Please stand. Doxology Hymnal 380, v. 3 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. The Great Thanksgiving The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Holy, Holy Wonder Love & Praise 859 Please kneel, stand or be seated. We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. Therefore according to his command, O Father, We remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory. 6

And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. The Lord s Prayer And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say: All Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! The Communion of the All who seek Christ are invited to receive Communion. Receive the bread in your cupped hands and then either guide the cup to your mouth to drink the wine or dip the wafer into the wine. Gluten-free wafers are available upon request. If you would like to receive Healing Prayers for yourself or a loved one, please come to the Healing Station in the front, right corner of the sanctuary after you receive communion. Children are welcome. Communion Anthem Alleluia Music: Alejandro Consolacion II Please kneel, stand, or be seated. Post-Communion Prayer All Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Blessing 7
