If school is canceled or there is a late school start, there will be no Mass or Prayer Service that day. All after school activities will also be canceled. The school and Parish Office building will be closed. Please listen to one of the Green Bay radio or TV stations for closing announcements when weather is severe. Thank you for taking the time to return our stewardship cards for 2019. It means much to me that persons are doing what they can to support our great parish. Please continue to turn them in. It had dawned on me after I filled out my own card that I had not adjusted my offerings for a number of years. I found myself on auto-pilot. Out of sight out of mind. And I see the books every day! So don t feel bad. If you need to adjust back, that is understandable too. Discernment of ongoing stewardship is just that, ongoing. Our lives are always changing. For those of you who are not able to commit online over the computer or who don t feel comfortable with that, we would be happy to speak with you in the parish office to help however we can. Please know that there is no pressure to do so on our end. Everyone needs to be comfortable and non-stressed about what they can do. Thank you for your continued prayers for our parish! I had a wonderful trip to Washington with our high school students and chaperones. We had 15 students and four adults go on the trip. In next week s bulletin we will share some pictures and I ll write a description of what we did. Our students are much more aware of life than I ever was at their age. It is very humbling to witness their integrity, love of God and love of neighbor. They challenge me to be a better priest! I was saddened to hear of the Covington Catholic High School incident. Like you, I was wondering what that was all about. I was grateful and comforted to know the students, in the end, were exonerated and were very mature about the whole experience. The bishop of Covington himself needed time to get all the facts, at first he condemned what he thought happened and then humbly respoke after learning more and of the students good will. Here is some of the statement he released this past week to the children s parents as reported by Catholic New Agency: We apologize to anyone who has been offended in any way by either of our statements which were made with good will based on the information we had We should not have allowed ourselves to be bullied and pressured into making a statement prematurely, and we take full responsibility for it. Foys also singled out Covington Catholic student Nicholas Sandmann, the student at the center of the controversy. A video emerged Jan. 19 of Sandmann standing in close proximity to Native American activist Nathan Phillips, who was, at the time, chanting and playing a ceremonial drum. Phillips made claims that he had been blocked and taunted by Sandmann, but video evidence later showed that Phillips had wandered into a crowd of Covington Catholic students while chanting and drumming. I especially apologize to Nicholas Sandmann and his family as well as to all CovCath families who have felt abandoned during this ordeal. Nicholas unfortunately has become the face of these allegations based on video clips, said Foys. This is not fair. This is not just. Earlier in the week, Foys offered similar sentiments to the student body during a rally. Know that I stand with you, that I join with you in that Spirit that will not die and that continued...

February 2 & 3, 2019 PAGE 3 together we will work through this. Thank you and God bless you, the bishop told students. He said that it was his hope and expectation that this investigation would exonerate the students, and that they will be able to move past this ordeal. He also expressed support for Robert Rowe, the principal. Rowe is a fine leader, said Foys, and those calling for his resignation simply do not know him. I pray that with the grace of God and the goodwill of all involved peace will once again reign in the hearts and minds of our faithful. More are on the Way! Pasty Sale After all Masses February 16 & 17. Take home these frozen pasties from Nylund Pasty in Crystal Falls, MI, and bake at your convenience. Each flaky crust is filled with ground beef, potatoes, onions, carrots, and/or rutabagas. $5 per 16oz pasty or $25 for 1/2 doz. Fr. Mark Vander Steeg 4th Sunday in Ordinary Times Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous. (1 CORINTHIANS 13:4) Do you get Jealous? Do you focus more on the things that. other people have than the gifts that God has given to you? Are you pompous? Do you acquire more possessions to impress others? At times we are all guilty of these things. Pray for more humility. Pray to become less self-centered and become more God-centered. Religious Education News Adam Horn-R.E.
