FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, January 20th: Second Sunday in Ordinary Time A medley of thoughts on aging, courtesy of Rich Bimler, who wrote a book on the topic: -The Lord sure loves older people because he is making so many more of us! -With aging comes wisdom, as long as we define wisdom as knowing that we do not know everything. -It is not who we know in life that counts, but it is who we yes in life that makes all the difference. - Just be yourself everyone else is taken. -Many don t understand that aging is something to celebrate rather than something to endure. -Hallmark cards for people 40-75 years old are generally negative, ageist, and cruel. - We should not want to be 17 again. We should just want to be the best 77- year-old we can be. -Be a G.O.A.T. which stand for Grand Old Adult in Training. Bimler concludes with this advice, Live and laugh in the joy of the resurrection. Grateful, as a parish, for being under the protecting wing of Archangel Raphael through the years. -Father Jerry Jecewiz This weekend s second collection is for Churches in Need, especially in Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America. EL RINCON HISPANO NOTAS: 1.El programa R.I.C.A.
THIS N THAT 1. A listing of CHRISTMAS FLOWERS (intentions and donors) continues in this week s bulletin. The handwritten info is sometimes hard to decipher, so if there is an error in print in your case let us know and we ll correct it. 2. After 25 years of ministry at the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican Embassy) in Washington, DC, Msgr. Maks will make the move back to our diocese in a month or so, reside at Cathedral Prep in Elmhurst, and continue to offer us his services. His weekend assistance has been a great blessing to our parish. 3. Confirmation will be celebrated here, together with Queen of Angels parish, on Friday, May 17th, at 5:00 pm. Bishop Raymond Chappetto will officiate. Confirmation meeting (parents & candidates) Wed., Feb. 6, at 7:30 pm, in Brennan Hall. ABOVE: A blast from the past as we mark our parish s 150th Anniversary. Our church pre-long Island Expressway. Notice the three-storey rectory, as opposed to the current two-storey one (the latter built in 1967 to replace the former which burned down). LEFT: Richard O Connor and members of QCP (Queens Center for Progress), Thursday Food Pantry volunteers, prep for distribution the apples and bananas bought with the recent Catholic Charities fresh produce grant to St. Raphael s Pantry. As of bulletin press time (Jan. 11th), the federal government partial shutdown has taken paychecks away from thousands of federal workers and contractors, increasing food insecurity and the subsequent stress on Pantries.
