December 30th: The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, The nonsense poet Ogden Nash once defined family as a unit composed not only of children, but of men, women, an occasional animal, and the common cold. He forgot to add that, at least for us Christians, it is also where the faith is passed on. For this reason, our Diocese of Brooklyn has designed an initiative to stimulate parents to accept responsibility for the ongoing faith formation of their children. Here at St. Raphael s, we already see this happening in our Friday evening family catechesis group, where children are instructed with and in the presence of one or both parents. It s not kids stuff, or grown-ups stuff, but family stuff. You can participate and receive free monthly family catechesis materials straight to your phone. Text FAMCAT to 84576. The activities and resources you get (by means of text messages) will help you and your family grow in faith. On this feast of the Holy Family, let s accept Pope Francis invitation to be missionary families in which the joy of the Good News of Jesus sheds light on daily joys and challenges in every home. -Father Jerry Jecewiz Grateful, as a parish, for being under the protecting wing of Archangel Raphael through the years.
