St. Kilian Catholic Church Page 3 Lenten Guidelines 2019 The 2019 Lenten season begins on Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019 and ends with the beginning of the Easter Triduum and celebration of the Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 18, 2019. The following practices are to be observed by Catholics in the Diocese of Orange in their penitential practices: Everyone 14 years of age or older is bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays of Lent. If for some serious reason a person must eat meat on a Friday in Lent, some other form of self-sacrifice should be performed. Everyone who is at least 18 years of age and not yet 60 is bound also to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On these two days of fasting, you should eat only one full meal. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken, but together they should not equal another full meal. You should not eat between meals on these days, but liquids are allowed. These rules do not oblige those whose health or ability to work would be seriously affected. Weekly Parish Offering The Knights of Columbus invite you to donate 40 cans of food for the 40 days of Lent. Lent is time of invitation to pray, fast and give. Your donation of one can for each of the 40 days of Lent will allow our Food Pantry to assist the poor and homeless of our parish and our community. First Sunday of Lent Question to ponder for the week: When you feel tempted to do wrong, how do you remain strong in your faith? Those beginning this process must be at least 18 years of age, have been baptized and received first Holy Eucharist.
