Year after year it sells more copies than any other single volume. Of course there is a reason for this - the Bible is ward _ and as His word it has applicarion- to the needs of men and women of every of life - every possible descriptiqd. And yet there is a,word that expresses tfie reason that the Bible continues to be the all time bestseller. The word is COMFORT. )N'T START THE ALONE PSALM 121 TES: /4!f 1m, 11 ~ r JANUARY 28, 1990 turn to th 23rd Psal Read those words that David penned, "the Lord is my S ep I shall not want..." There is the comfort that you will need - the words that remind us that God is looking out after us, preparing defenses against our enemies, bringing prosperity and blessing into our lives. Do the circumstances of life have your frightened and afraid? hat is too gr for the equipment you possess. Pick up the scripture and turn t ohn 14:1. here Jesus speaks his final words to the disciples or s that come to men who are about to see their Lord crucified men who are about to receive the great responsibility of sharing the Gospel message with the world. Jesus' words were comforting, "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. You believe in believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you... I will return and receive you unto myself. Our scripture this morning, Psalm 121, is equally one of the most comforting passages in scripture. WHY? - because the comfort that it seeks to give is a comfort that all of us so frequently need We becarrse the world in which we live has an equal number of burdens for each of us, "It rains on the just and on the unjust". Of course it doesn't always appear to be that way. Perhaps of us s::,end strength to keep others because so realizing how much strength we actually need ourselves. And yet it is a need that all of experience - this need for strength. We need it to pay the bills. Shouldering the financial responsibility of a family can be at one of the heaviest burdens we carry. And yet doesn't your friends have it made. LJnhappjness.has tts roqts in many different soils other than just financial loneliness, disappointment, depression. Surgery or failing health can be another moment that calls for great strength. Death of a loved one can be still another instance when we need the comfort that comes from the strength that is in Christ Jesus. David's words in Psalm 121 are comforting because they promise strength. When we look at these words we discover some truths that all of us can relate to. I. THE SOURCE OF HAS EVERYTHING TO SAY ABOUT STRENGTH IT WILL BE One of the most important observations about strength is its source - where your strength comes from has everything to do with how much strength you will have. I r stren th is from an al current then 11 O volts or in some cases 220 vo ts may be the limit of t e power you will experience. If your strength is from the muscles of your body then your strength will be limited to the amount o r weight and the time spent training and developing the muscles you seek to use. sweep the medals in the weight lifting class because of their size and superior training. Where your strength comes from has everything to do with who will receive the strength when it is needed. The Psalmist goes on, "He will not suffer thy foot to be moved". That is to say His strength is without equal uncompromised so much as the moving of your foot. You will not only stand when the battle is over His strength will not even allow you to stagger while the battle is underway. "he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold he that keepeth Israel will neither slumber nor sleep". Where does your strength come from? Its source will determine who receives it. The Psalmist promises that the strength that comes from God is a strength that is for everybody- it is an inclusive "he that keepeth Israel". God's strength can be applied inclusively to us all. when laoa1 io bandage in Egypt.
