God is the biggest chess player in the whole wide world. God has always been steps and moves ahead of me. -Bennett Ekandem, North American Mission Board Missionary Bennett Ekandem Photo Instructions: Print in color and use as directed in the worship guide
Bennett Ekandem and his wife, Idong, started an afterschool center for children whose families had to leave their country because it was no longer safe for them to live there. The center is in Clarkston, Georgia, but Mr. Ekandem is not from Georgia. In fact, he is not originally from the United States at all! He and his wife are from Nigeria, a country in Africa. [Take 10 steps back.] While in Africa, Mr. Ekandem had no interest in missionary work, not in his own country and not anywhere. He chose to run away from it all together and moved to the United States for money and other opportunities. He wanted to become somebody famous. [Take 10 steps forward.] After arriving in America, Mr. Ekandem and his wife visited many churches [take 2 steps to the right], but they left every single one [take 2 steps to the left] because the pastor would eventually invite them to get involved in missions. [Take 2 steps forward.] After a lot of running [run in place], God did something surprising! The pastor of the church Mr. Ekandem was visiting asked him to lead a mission team back to Nigeria, and this time he said yes! [Stop running.] [Take 10 steps backward.] Mr. Ekandem arrived back in Nigeria. It was there that God showed him how hard life can be for those living in countries that are not their home and how there are still so many people who need to know Jesus. [Take 10 steps forward.] When Mr. Ekandem came home to Clarkston, Georgia, he knew God had planned this journey all along and that He wanted Mr. Ekandem to help those living in his city who had moved there from other countries. [Act out shaking the hands of people beside you.] Bennett Ekandem had finally stopped running. [Sit on the floor.] Mr. Ekandem s Mission Instructions: Print in color and use as directed in the worship guide
