Adoration after the Mass and Benediction at 6:30 pm NA Meeting tonight Continental Breakfast after 9 am Mass Second Collection is for Home Missions SOCIAL JUSTICE CORNER The Social Justice Corner is a good place to get some new information and encouragement to continue to reach out to others in need. In Parenting for Peace and Justice, Kathleen and James McGinnis give helpful suggestions for including your children in social Justice. They have developed six principles that make sense: Invite children to join in social justice activities 1.Broad exposure to situations is important 2.Invite children to actions that are within their capabilities 3.Integrate fun whenever possible 4.Social action involvement means doing with not doing for. Social action involves the works of justice as well as the works of mercy. On, we honor the Earth and children are welcome to come into the Fr. Jim Community Center after the 9 AM Mass to participate. (Earth Day is April 22) The next event for Social Justice in this parish is the Navajo drive in June in which we support our sister parish, Christ the King, in New Mexico. It is the poorest parish in the United States whose parishioners are very grateful for our help. EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS ON THE SURVIVAL SACK DRIVE Queen of Apostles Parishioners. Your generosity in the Survival Sack drive was underestimated. The final figures are in from Sacred Heart and $3227 was donated plus 70 filled backpacks from the school and another 25 filled by the parishioners. Also many items that are needed to survive on the street were donated. Your generosity is unbounded and your LOVE for you neighbors is inspiring. Thank you. Stop by to look at pictures on the bulletin boards. Grief Group The grief support group s next meeting will be 4/20. Please call Shirley 408-241-1209 if you have any questions or need to talk. Third After Easter Some time ago, some friends and I were talking and an interesting question was posed. If Jesus were to walk through the door right now, would you recognize Him? The conversation this question spawned was a fun one, with ideas ranging from fashion to what He might say by way of greeting. But my friend s response touched me so much that even all these years later I have not forgotten it. He said, My heart would know Him. Today s Gospel begins with a recap of the encounter the disciples had on the road to Emmaus. As one who prepares students to receive Holy Communion, this passage has always been one of my favorites, because it wasn t until Jesus broke bread and said the blessing that the eyes of the disciples were opened to who He is. And their response reminds me so much of that conversation long ago Were not our hearts burning within us, when He spoke to us on the way, and opened the scriptures to us? Their hearts knew Him, but it was in the breaking of the bread, that they truly saw who He is. Every time we come together to celebrate the Mass, we come face to face with the Risen Lord. But many of us do not recognize Him. Many times we go through the motions with little or no thought of who we are receiving. The Eucharist is not just a symbol of Jesus. It truly IS the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord. That is powerful stuff. As we draw closer to the time when our children will receive Holy Communion for the first time, I ask for the prayers of our community, that our children also will be able to recognize Him in the breaking of the bread. And that if someone should ever pose the question to them, they will be able to answer with the same assuredness. My heart will know Him. ~~Kristie Mannning
