Believe - Essentials of the Christian Faith If you were to die today, how sure are you that you would go to heaven? o Doubtful o Uncertain o Pretty Sure o Certain If God were to ask you, Why should I allow you into heaven? what would you say? Agreement with Watermark s Essential Beliefs While the elders and leadership of Watermark hold to the full doctrinal statement (see link below) we understand that there is room for differing interpretations in what we consider the non-essentials. Consequently, it is possible to become a member of Watermark even though you may not agree with the full doctrinal statement. Every member, however, is required to agree with Watermark's seven essentials: The Bible We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, as well as, the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; John 17:17). o Agree o Disagree o Unsure The Trinity We believe there is one God, that the Father and the Son and the Spirit is each God, and that the Father and the Son and the Spirit is each a distinct person (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14; see also 1 Corinthians 8:6, Colossians 2:9 & Acts 5:3-4). o Agree o Disagree o Unsure Jesus Christ We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God, fulfill prophecy and redeem sinful man. We believe He accomplished our redemption through His substitutionary sacrifice on the cross, burial and bodily resurrection. We believe our redemption and salvation are guaranteed by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead and that He is the only means of salvation (John 1:1, 14, 18; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24-26; 4:25; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Timothy 2:5). We believe that Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, the Creator and Sustainer of heaven and earth, and the Head of the church. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is now in heaven, exalted to the right hand of God where, as High Priest to His people, He serves as our Advocate and intercedes for us (Colossians 1:15-19; Hebrews 1:3; 3:1; 7:23-25; 1 John 2:1-2). o Agree o Disagree

o Unsure The Holy Spirit - We believe God the Holy Spirit is a person who restrains evil in the world and convicts men of sin, righteousness and judgment. He dwells in all who believe in Jesus. From the moment of belief in the Son, the Spirit baptizes believers into the body, seals them for salvation, regenerates them to new life, bestows spiritual gifts on each one, and is fully present to continually fill (control and guide) His own (John 16:7-11; John 3:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 13; John 14:16-17; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:19). o Agree o Disagree o Unsure Man We believe man was created innocent and in the image and likeness of God, but that man sinned, bringing both physical and spiritual death to himself and his posterity (Genesis 1:27, 2:17, 3:19), can do nothing to merit God s favor and as such is in need of salvation. (Isaiah 59:1-2; Romans 6:23). We believe that mankind s sinful nature is rebellious toward God, and His good design for life and worship (Romans 1:20-24; Ephesians 2:1-3). Mankind s rebellion causes confusion about good and evil, and harm to people ultimately ending in judgment, despair and death. (Genesis 1:31; Galatians 5:16-21; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; James 1:13-15). We believe that God created mankind in His image and assigned gender to His people, male (man) and female (woman), creating them sexually and biologically different, but with equal personal dignity and value (Genesis 1:26-28). We believe that God ordained marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:18; Matthew 19:4-9; Ephesians 5:31-33). Those who accept and live within God s design for sex, biological gender and marriage experience the blessing of His good design (Psalm 1:1-3, 128:1-4), and decisions to change, alter or modify God s will in marriage, sex or gender are part of man s brokenness and lead to despair. (Romans 1:21-22; James 1:13-15). We believe that God loves and pursues mankind despite our rebellion (Romans 5:8). He offers forgiveness, healing and abundant life to anyone who turns to Him in humility. (John 3:17, 10:10; Titus 3:3-7; 1 Peter 5:6-7). o Agree o Disagree o Unsure Salvation We believe salvation is a sovereign gift of God and is received by man through personal faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin. We believe man is justified by grace through faith apart from works (Acts 13:38-39; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 1:4-5 & 2:8-10). We believe that Jesus Christ is the only means of salvation and that no one is saved apart from a conscious and personal decision to trust in Christ as his or her one and only Savior (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 10:9-10). We believe all true believers elect of God, once saved, are kept secure in Christ forever (Romans 8:1, 29-30, 38-39; John 10:27-30). o Agree o Disagree o Unsure The Second Coming We believe in the future, visible, and bodily return of Jesus Christ to the earth, commonly called the Second Coming, to rule the nations and establish His kingdom on earth (Philippians 3:20; Matthew 24:15-31; Zechariah 14:4-11; Revelation 19:11-21). o Agree o Disagree o Unsure

For more information about our position on the above doctrine, please click here for Watermark s full doctrinal statement. If you answered "Disagree" or "Unsure" to any of the previous questions, please give a short explanation. Someone on our staff may follow up to understand more and see how we can best serve you.

Believe - Values I recognize God's sovereign control over my circumstances in life and therefore feel less of a need to control people or events. The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. (Psalms 23:1) I intentionally engage in conversations with non-believers for the purpose of sharing the gospel. Jesus answered them, Those who are well don t need a physician, but those who are sick do. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Luke 5:31-32) My heart breaks for people I know who do not have a relationship with Jesus and I pray for them regularly. First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people, even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior, since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4) I invite people who are far from God to Watermark as a means of introducing them to Jesus. Are you currently utilizing a Top 10 list? (list of 10 people God has put on your heart to pray for consistently) o Yes o I was not aware of the Top 10 list before now (cards are available at the Welcome Center in Dallas and Plano, and the Connect Table in Ft. Worth)

Do you have a story you would like to share of how you ve seen life transformation occur in anyone from your Top 10 list? If so, please provide a brief overview below:

Belong - Belonging to Community One criteria for Watermark community groups is that they have at least 3 people (for singles groups) or at least 3 couples (for married groups). Does your community group meet that criteria? o Yes Do you have people attending your group who are not members of Watermark? o Yes o I don't know Are you the community group leader? o Yes I provide accountability to the members of my group concerning spiritual disciplines (e.g. abiding with Jesus, prayer, Scripture memory, etc.). As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17) I share what I am learning from God's Word with the members of my group. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God." (Colossians 3:16) I pursue others in my group outside of scheduled group meeting times in order to deepen our relationships. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11) I provide counsel to my group that is rooted in God's Word rather than on worldly wisdom or my own feelings and opinions. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I am authentic in sharing my hurts, habits and hang-ups with my group. There is nothing in my life currently hidden from my group. So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness. (James 5:16) I lovingly admonish and spur on the members of my group by pointing out growth areas or blind spots that they may have. Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy. (Proverbs 27:5-6) I encourage and challenge the members of my group to share Christ with others. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20) When conflict arises in our group, I lovingly engage and respond according to biblical principles. o We have not experienced conflict in our group I commit to the following with my community group: Devote myself daily to an abiding relationship with Jesus by practicing the spiritual disciplines (Bible reading, prayer, scripture memory, etc.) Pursue deep relationships with those in my community group Offer and receive biblical counsel in all areas of life Live authentically in sharing my struggles Encourage and faithfully admonish those in my community group toward spiritual growth Engage missionally in my sphere of influence to make disciples o Yes

My entire community group meets: o Weekly o Every two weeks o Monthly o Less than once per month The men in our group meet separately for encouragement and accountability: o Weekly o Every two weeks o Monthly o Less than once per month o They do not meet separately The women in our group meet separately for encouragement and accountability: o Weekly o Every two weeks o Monthly o Less than once per month o They do not meet separately How much has your community group contributed to your spiritual growth this year on a scale of 1-10? o 1 (Lowest/has not contributed at all) o 2 o 3 o 4 o 5 o 6 o 7 o 8 o 9 o 10 (Highest/has contributed greatly) Please rate your marriage on a scale of 1-10. 1 = lowest, 10-highest o 1 (Lowest) o 2 o 3 o 4 o 5 o 6 o 7 o 8 o 9 o 10 (Highest)

I am open with my community about the highs and lows of our marriage. o Yes Compared to last year, my marriage is: o Worse o About the same o Better

Parenting Which of the following topics would benefit you as a parent? How to teach your kids about: o Their identity in Christ o Respect for authority o The importance of spiritual disciplines (e.g., abiding daily, prayer, scripture memory, etc.) o Biblical view of sex and marriage o Biblical view of same-sex attraction o Relationships, dating, and purity o Appropriate uses of technology & social media o Sharing their faith with their peers How much do you agree with the following statement: I feel more equipped as a parent than I did a year ago o Agree strongly o Agree somewhat o Neutral o Disagree somewhat o Disagree strongly

Be Trained in Truth I intentionally spend time reading and meditating on God s Word out of a desire to better know and follow Him throughout my day. This law scroll must not leave your lips! You must memorize it day and night so you can carefully obey all that is written in it. Then you will prosper and be successful. (Joshua 1:8) o Less than once/week o 1-2 days/week o 3-4 days/week o 5-6 days/week o 7 days/week I apply Scripture to daily circumstances, situations and struggles in ways that transform my life. My feet have followed His steps closely; I have kept to His way and have not turned aside. I have not departed from the commands of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my allotted portion. (Job 23:11-12) I evaluate teachings, ideas, values and lifestyles to see if they are consistent with the Bible. These Jews were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they eagerly received the message, examining the scriptures carefully every day to see if these things were so. (Acts 17:11) I can answer questions about life and faith by citing specific Bible verses from memory. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16) I am able to confidently answer objections/questions concerning the Christian faith. But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess. (1 Peter 3:15)

I can clearly articulate to others my testimony/story of grace, the significance of the cross and how they can place their trust in Jesus Christ. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners and I am the worst of them! But here is why I was treated with mercy: so that in me as the worst, Christ Jesus could demonstrate his utmost patience, as an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life. (1 Timothy 1:15-16) o Yes I have taken the following Core Classes and Equipped Disciple classes through the Watermark Equipping ministry Check each class you have ever taken: o Cover to Cover: Understanding the Story of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation o The Life of Christ: The Mission and Message of Jesus o Keys to Effective Bible Study: How to Read, Interpret, and Apply the Bible o Know What You Believe and Why: Understanding the Essentials of Christianity and How They Shape Worldview o Answering the Tough Ones: How to Respond to Skeptics o Evangelism: Engaging Your World with the Life Changing Message of Jesus o Equipped Disciple 1 o Equipped Disciple 2 o Equipped Disciple 3 Please list two to three topics, questions or books of Bible you d like Watermark to teach on in the coming year: (Optional)

Be Strong - In a Life of Ministry I recognize my dependence upon the Lord and turn to Him in prayer throughout the day. With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and to this end be alert, with all perseverance and requests for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:18) I see my time as entrusted to me for God's use and glory. Therefore be very careful how you live not as unwise but as wise, taking advantage of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16) I can articulate my spiritual gifts, passions and natural strengths. Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of the varied grace of God. (1 Peter 4:10) o Yes I am making intentional investments into the lives of others to help them grow in their relationship with Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2) o Yes I love and serve others by placing their needs before my own regardless of their background or what they can do for me. Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well. (Philippians 2:3-4) I use my time, talents, or treasure to help people who are financially poor or who live with other severe challenges. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)

I handle my financial resources with the mindset that they are the Lord s and that they have been entrusted to me to provide for my family, the family of God, and to accomplish His kingdom purposes. You are the source of wealth and honor; you rule over all. You possess strength and might to magnify and give strength to all. (1 Chronicles 29:12) I have given financially to Watermark Community Church in the past year. o Yes I believe I am a generous and cheerful giver. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7) o Yes I live under biblical principles related to debt, budgeting, and financial stewardship. The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. (Proverbs 22:7) Compared to this time last year, the health of my relationship with Christ is: o Worse o About the same o Better The Current is our communication email sent out each week and is an important way we communicate what is happening at Watermark. If you are not currently subscribed to The Current, would you like to receive it? o Sign me up o I'm already subscribed o I'm not interested Is there any additional feedback that you wish to share?

I reaffirm my commitment to the ministry of, being shepherded by, and investing in the mission and local community that gathers as Watermark Community Church. o Yes
