Craig Dear Parishioners, This is the first Sunday of Lent. The season of Lent is a time of penance and conversion. The word actually means Spring. It is 40 days and we await the celebration of Easter. This season asks us to pray, fast and to give alms. Let us use this time to grow deeper in relationship to our Lord. I will be using a little incense at the Masses that I will be celebrating during Lent. I will use it in small amounts so that some with asthma won t have to leave the Church. If you find it a problem, you can use the chapel which is a separate ventilation system. Please pick up a wristband which is a good reminder of lent and we are handing out free books called The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity by Matthew Kelly. As you may have seen in the bulletin, we have made a CD of the rosary. We are going to have it available starting Thursday evening at 7:00pm and then at all of the weekend Masses. This CD was produced by Kevin Cooper, Drew Nenemen and various parishioners. I hope you enjoy listening to it at home or in the car. Every Friday we have Stations of the Cross at 5:30. Our parish mission starts next week, March18 & 19. Please come to hear a wonderful speaker, Dominick Albano. He is a young father and I am sure he has lots of stories. Have a great week. Fr. Craig Hamburgers & Buns Needed! We donate Hamburgers and Buns to the Siena Francis House on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Our teams are in need of a few more volunteers to help out. In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Each Lent we hear the Gospel scripture of Jesus being tempted in the desert. He went to the desert to eliminate distractions and pray for His Fathers guidance. Lent is also our opportunity to set aside our wants and desires and draw close to God. The image of the desert calls us to remove those distractions of life and allow God s Spirit to change our hearts and minds toward him. It is difficult for us to do that because of the life that surrounds us and our hardness of heart. We really don t want to deal with our faults. As young innocence children we expressed sorrow for wrongs even before our parents dealt out any punishment. However, as we grew older, we searched for ways to hide our mistakes and shift the blame. We carry those bad habits into adulthood, and often we find ourselves in denial about our sinfulness. We may hide our sins from everyone else, but not from God. We must remember the devil is always seeking to destroy us and is probing us to find and expose our weaknesses. The whole idea of Lent is to journey into a spiritual desert free of any distractions or comforts, and to lay ourselves bare before God, asking for his mercy. Our Lenten goal should be to search our hearts and minds and ask our Lord to expose those hidden sins we have committed. Remember, a sin is anything that causes us to turn away from God and not to do his will. Take a spiritual desert journey this Lent and discover yourself. Discover that innocence child again and ask the Lord s forgiveness, accepting His never ending mercy and love. St. Leo Knights of Columbus HELP!
