St. Germain Bo-Boen Newsletter 40th Anniversary 1969-2009 Volume 2009-10 Number 5 January 2010 President s Message Tom Christensen Hello everyone and welcome to the January 2010 edition of the Bo-Boen Newsletter. The 2009-2010 snowmobile season will be officially under way by the time you receive this newsletter. It bothers me that we are not opening our trails until the middle of December. Because of the county bureaucracies and hunting seasons that have been created, snowmobilers are not able to enjoy riding in northern Wisconsin until the middle of the month. We need to continue to stand together in order to protect our rights to be able to enjoy our sport of snowmobiling. We lucked out for next year with the DNR cancelling their plans for a sixteen day deer hunt. Thank you all for your support and remember we will need your help again in the future because they will bring it back for consideration. Upcoming events in January & February of 2010; in January, Radar Runs on Little St. Germain Lake. In February, the Vogel Grooming Show and Vintage Snowmobile Race. All of these events have been going on for years, growing in popularity each year and they are fun snowmobile events to attend. If you don t live in the area, check out when they are and plan to participate in one of them; you won t be sorry that you did. Thanks again to all of our volunteers, groomer drivers and all of the support we receive from our members. We wouldn t be the great club that we are without all of you. Thank you for your support Tom New Tractors Arrived December 5th! January Membership Meeting Tuesday, January 12th Sportsmen s Chalet Cocktails 6:00 pm Dinner 7:00 pm Menu Selection: Prime Rib served with baked potato Stuffed Haddock with imitation crab Served with baked potato Stuffed Cornish Hen served with Wild Rice All dinners served with salad, coffee and dessert. All dinners are priced at $17.00 with tax and gratuity included. Members are responsible for the payment of their reservation whether they attend or not. RSVP by Sunday, January 10th to: Renee Verfuerth (715) 479-1156

Trail Boss Report Jim Wendt At this writing, more than 6" of snow is on the ground and the temps have gone below zero to start making good ice. All this bodes well for an on-time opening of our trail system. We are hoping for more snow so our grooming crew will be able to begin working our trail system into top condition. We have taken delivery of our 2 new tractors. Telephones, cameras, lettering, and supplies have been added to have them ready to mate with our two 9'6" drags so we could have the trails ready for the December 16th opener. Lulich Implement from Mason, WI provided the hours of training on tractor operation for our drivers which should accelerate the learning curve on this new equipment. Now we have to hope the shake-out period will find any small problems that may come up so they can be addressed before we get out on the trails for grooming. How about our great DNR? After all the hoop-a-la over the extended deer hunt in December, they have up and dropped the whole idea to undertake a complete study of the deer hunt numbers from this latest hunt! Many have been saying for years the numbers from the DNR were way off. Just goes to show again, the bureaucrats needed to listen to the guys in the woods to really understand what is going on! Thanks again to all you snowmobilers who supported the opposition to this proposal - great job! Now, it's our time of year...let's RIDE!!!!!! Happy Trails, Jim Groomer drivers check out one of two new tractors purchased by the Club. The St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club will be hosting a race for the Northern Vintage Snowmobile Race Series on Saturday, February 27, 2010. Racing starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends around 5:00 p.m. at the St. Germain Community Center and soccer fields. Admission is free, and you can come by car or by snowmobile. Refreshments and food are available all day. The Northern Vintage Snowmobile Race Series is made up of vintage snowmobile enthusiasts that promote fundraising through racing for other organizations. They have a six-race series that starts in January and ends in March. It makes an enjoyable outing for the whole family. For more information on the NVSRS circuit, see their web site at www.nvsrs.org. This is the fifth year we will be hosting this event. It is a great fundraiser for our club, and we need volunteers to help with the race and also for food service. If you can help out that day, please contact Tom Christensen at 715-479-4930 or stgsport@verizon.net.

ATTENTION NON-RESIDENT SNOWMOBILERS Snowmobiles bearing Wisconsin registration are not required to have a non-resident trail pass, even if the owner is from out of state. A two year Wisconsin registration is $30.00, compared to two trail passes at $70.00 for two years. Almost two times the money is generated with a two year registration as is with two trail passes due to the formula used to transfer gas tax revenue to the state snowmobile fund; the state snowmobile fund is where the money comes from for grooming and trail maintenance. By having Wisconsin registration instead of a trail pass, you save $40.00 every two years and contribute more money to the state fund. It is perfectly legal to have Wisconsin registration on your snowmobile in addition to your home state's registration. You do not need a Wisconsin address; your home address can be used for a Wisconsin registration. Once you have a Wisconsin registration, it can be renewed online at the DNR website. Wisconsin registration applications can be obtained at any DNR office, at any dealer who sells snowmobiles in Wisconsin, and at many dealers out of state near the Wisconsin border.
