Harbor Light Pcph.org Presbyterian Church of Palm Harbor October 2017 Pumpkins, Puerto Rico and Promises Ah, my inauguration into the PCPH Pumpkin Patch is about to begin! I ve heard and learned a lot about it so far. Now the actual experience is about to begin. On Saturday, September 30, there will be diligent workers prepping and clearing the area for the delivery. This coming Saturday, October 7, starting at 8am we get together to unload, sort and set up. Of course, this month long event in the congregation s life wouldn t be complete without you. There are sign-up sheets in the entry way outside the Fellowship Hall as well as in the narthex leading into the sanctuary. Pumpkins will be sold for 23 days! So many days have passed since Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico and left 3 ½ million people in dire situations. As you can imagine, there are specific needs: batteries, flashlights, canned food and milk, bottled water, baby products: diapers, wipes, etc. and bleach to name a few. Donations can be dropped off at a staging area in Tampa: Working Hands, 4916 S. Lois Ave. Of course, there are other ways to help as well. You can visit www.pda.pcusa.org where you can contribute to helping our neighbors in Puerto Rico, Texas, Florida, and/or Mexico. Finally, I ve been thinking about the promises of God lately. John Calvin, the 16 th century reformer was fond of saying that we receive all of God s promises in Jesus Christ. This means that because of the lavish ways God loves, calls and changes us, we are free to serve other people first. That will happen in conversations that undoubtedly take place as pumpkins come and go; in prayers and gifts for the people destroyed by hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, or ethnic cleansing; in worshiping the Lord of heaven and earth and so on. As the apostle Paul says in Romans 11: For from God and through God and to God are all things. To God be the glory forever. Amen. Shalom - Pastor Bruce A Safe Harbor where the Light of Christ Jesus directs all who are adrift to anchor themselves in Him. Creating Connections Through Christ Creating Connections Through Christ

After dinner we will have fun by playing Name That Tune! We will be playing songs from the 1940s through today. Dinner will be Beef Stroganoff over buttered noodles, Belgian carrots, tossed salad and dessert. There is no cost for the dinner, but there will be a free will offering.
