Newsletter for the Mystic Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge January 2018 A Captain s Farewell Wow. What a NIGHT! 15 months ago, I had a vision of what Bal Masque 37 could be. I had hoped that this ball would show our potential for creativity, extravagance and exceptional teamwork. What we managed to pull off far surpassed my expectations. I can definitely say Bal Masque 37 is one for the books! The Krewe of Apollo is about brotherhood. I cannot possibly express my gratitude and appreciation for all members for their hard work and dedication to ensuring that last night was a complete success. This year has been an eye-opening, learning experience for me. The lessons I learned will prove incredibly useful when I am blessed to hold future roles within the Krewe. That being said, sometimes differences of opinion should be put aside for the betterment of this Krewe We are a team, a family, a brotherhood of strong-willed, creative, talented individuals. Larry Freeman had a vision and we have to ensure the future of that vision for many years to come. I hope to attend Bal Masque 70 when I m in my mid-60 s, God willing, and continuing to uphold the bylaws to their fullest potential will be the forefront of my contribution to the future of this Krewe. As Captain, everyone relies on you to plan and coordinate events to raise money for the upcoming ball. With the assistance of numerous individuals: Tyson O Brien, Scot Aidt, Chad Blanchard, Tamela Aidt, Channing Gauthier, Carlos Perez, Lindsey Bradford and Jerri Mcklemurry we were able to reach our goals. I d also like to thank the veterans who helped with costumes. Despite beginning the year in the red, I m so thankful to complete a year under the proposed budget. This feat became possible by analyzing expenses from our previous balls and reinventing events with Tyson s help. I see great potential in this Krewe member and friend, and that s why he received the Captain s award this year. Tyson went above and beyond to ensure I had plenty of money, and we all know how easily I can do that! My two CoCaptains went above and beyond the call of duty. Tamela Aidt, you were always there at a moment s notice for ideas and decorating for events. Some individuals may see you here only because Scot is a member, but I know you go above and beyond because that s who you are, that s your character. I, on behalf of the Krewe, thank you for your dedication to this Krewe and the duties I entrusted in you. I could stand here all day thanking individuals for all their hard work through this year but I want each of you to know listed or not that I couldn t have pulled this off without you. Dustin, thank you for being there for me, your support has been invaluable. I have put a lot of time into this Krewe over the past four years. With much thought and consideration, I have decided to take the backseat this next year for many reasons, but, I will continue to costume and put on fabulous presentations for the Bal Masques in future. Thank you for choosing me to be Captain for Bal Masque 37. I will cherish all the memories and am very much looking forward to 38 Apollo Lafayette Bal Masque Lights! Camera! Apollo! The Rush Hour Report Dear Brothers, Ladies, Supporters, and Friends, 2017 was a busy and exciting year for the Mystic Krewe of Apollo Baton Rouge and it has been my honor and privilege to serve as your president during this time. At times we faced challenges and difficulties, we never allowed those obstacles to stand in the way of coming together as one unit and serve our community. I want to congratulate Bal Masque Captain XXXVII Josh Richardson and his two Co-Captains, Scot Aidt and Carlos Perez on a job well done for a great and memorable bal masque. Year 37 brought change and opportunity to our Krewe. We re-branded our appearance in the community and addressed financial challenged to assure Apollo would be able to continue its unique role in our community. I want to thank the Board of Directors, Rick Cain, Tyson O Brien, Carlos Perez, Tom Merrill, Channing Gauthier, Josh Richardson, Scot Aidt, Hal Holloway, Dennis Brewin, Travis Dupuy, and Chad Blanchard for the leadership, insight, and dedication they provided this past year. Thank you to all that have helped make this year a success. As you all know, our organization allows us many opportunities to network, connect, and remain active in our community. It is my hopes that you will join us again for year 38! Most importantly, I want to thank the members and our sponsors whose dedicated support is critical to keeping Apollo alive and prospering. Without you all, none of this would be possible! 2018 is going to be yet another amazing year! Plans are in the works for more continued growth and development for our Krewe. I encourage any member interested in getting involved to reach out and see what opportunities may exist. With gratitude, I am Sincerely yours, Jonathan A.
