Phillipsburg Christian Church Newsletter FEBRUARY 2016 From the Pastors Pen Valentine s Day is coming this month and of course Church Events romantics all over the world will be finding clever ways to express their love with chocolates, hearts and roses! Each year Hallmark tries to find new and clever ways to express love, but when it comes to love I believe the Bible does a better job than Hallmark can ever do, because it talks about the great love of God! One of the best known verses in all the Bible is John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. What a wonderful expression of love God has shown to us. But the question is: do we love God as we should and do we love others as we should? Jesus said, If you love me; keep my commandments. John 14:14. That s how we express our love back to God the Father. From The Pastor s Pen continued... But aside from that the Bible helps us to understand the real nature of this thing called LOVE. 1. REAL LOVE DOES THE RIGHT THING: Paul explains how real love acts! "Love is patient; love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." 1 Cor. 13:4-7. We would all do well to put this on our fridge; look at it daily and determine to put it into practice. 2. REAL LOVE STANDS THE TEST OF TIME: Paul concludes the chapter on love by saying, And now these three remain: FAITH, HOPE and LOVE. But the greatest of these is LOVE! 1 Cor. 13:13 God s love for us is a love that endures. He always stands ready to forgive and to pardon if we will only turn to Him is trust and repentance. He only asks that you love Him enough to obey his salvation plan. To help FCC celebrate the Love of God and our love for spouses, family, members and friends of our church family, the elders are planning a special valentine banquet right after Church on Feb. 14. ALL are invited to this special time of love and fellowship. There will be food, entertainment, and the opportunity to have your picture taken with your spouse, family, or just you as a remembrance of this special time. Mark Feb 14 on your calendar and plan to come and enjoy a special time with members and friends of FCC. Love ya, Pastor Herder A special note of thanks straight from my heart.
