Semi-annual Newsletter of the Sisters of Charity Spirituality Center January 2019 From the Director As we experience this season of cold weather and frosty mornings, I came across a winter poster that offers Advice from a SNOWFLAKE. Just to quote two lines: Appreciate small wonders! Celebrate your uniqueness! Winter is a special season in our calendar which causes us to slow down. We become aware of what is going on inside like the many trees who lose their leaves and do the necessary inner work in preparation for the new coming in the spring. All of us are enriched with the changes of the seasons in this part of Ohio. Each season has a special blessing inviting us to pause and re lect on our own lives. How do I change and become aware of what I am being called to with each new day? As we move into the new programs for the coming months, we look forward to sharing with one another our uniqueness, just like the snow lake. We ponder and work through our grief as we grow and change with each new day. Others will be creating a masterful work of art using clay and the giftedness from within. We look forward to viewing some movies that will move us and allow us time to think, pray and re lect on the goodness of our loving God. We hope that you will be able to come and share some time with us as we begin the New Year. We are grateful for all of you and for your support. We in the Spirituality Center wish you all the blessings and graces needed in these coming winter days. Many blessings to all, Marty You can ind the entire Advice from a SNOWFLAKE at YourTrueNature.com. Page 4 Pathways to Prayer As we move along our journey of life, along our pathways, we discover different ways in which we meet God. We invite you to come explore and pray as we connect with God in a variety of new ways. THEMES/PRESENTERS/DATES Writing the Soul s Story: Listening Beneath the Words Feb. 2 (Registration by Jan.23) Rebeka Maples, PhD, M.Div. There is a yearning for the holy in each of us, something only God can ill. We may spend our lives searching for other things to ill the void or quell the yearning, and our struggle may take us in many directions. Yet, something as simple as sitting and listening to the sounds around us or reading a Bible passage can bring peace to our weary souls and open out hearts to God. In this session we will focus on writing in ways that help us listen to God and tell our story. We will practice listening beneath the words of Bible passages and other spiritual texts and writing our prayers as we hear God speaking to us. Rebeka Maples, PhD, M.Div. is director of spiritual formation for a United Methodist training program at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio (Delaware, Ohio). She is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church and has served for 20 years in both Ohio and England. Rebeka is a certi ied spiritual director through the Wellstreams training program with Dominican Sisters of Peace in Columbus, Ohio. She is writing spiritual and political poems and prayers, and has published with Wild Goose Publications of the Iona Community (UK): Praying with Light (2014), God in Desert Places (2018), Waiting for the Light (2018); and numerous poems in other sources. Besides writing she also enjoys nature and running half-marathons whenever time and training permit.
