RCIA AND THE PREPARATION FOR EASTER RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is the program to initiate adults into full Catholic Christianity. Because we have so many children of catechetical age to be baptized, our parish also has an extensive program of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for Children. It is the program to initiate children who were not baptized as infants into full Catholic Christianity. In order to be a fully initiated Christian, you must be baptized, confirmed, and receive the Holy Eucharist. Most of us were initiated as children - we were baptized as infants, received Communion at age 7 or 8, and were confirmed a couple of years after that. That is still the way most Catholics are brought into fullness of life in Jesus. For you who were initiated as children, the question for you in Lent is: Are you living in the grace of your baptism? Do you give witness in the Holy Spirit you received at Confirmation? Is your life so much in union with the Lord Jesus Whom you receive in Communion, that you bear fruits of holiness and love? If not, Lent is the time to RENEW!! But, more and more there are many who are not initiated as children - the Lord touches them as adults or as older children. Our parish has several such people who this year are approaching Easter with a hunger for full Christian life. These are asked to go through the RCIA. These adults, youth and children include our catechumens - those preparing for Baptism and can -- baptized Christians preparing for other Sacraments. During Lent, we will present many of these people to you at various Sunday Masses. This Sunday, the First Sunday of Lent, there will be a Ceremony of ``Sending'', a formal enrolling of catechumens for the Lenten Program of Preparation. On the same day, Bishop DiMarzio will go to Bishop Ford High School to receive the names of the catechumens, and call them in the name of the Church to the full life of Christ. On the 3 rd, 4 th, and 5 th Sundays of Lent, Mar. 24 th, Mar. 31 st, and Apr, 7 th, we will celebrate the Scrutinies. These are ceremonies where we ask Jesus to look into their hearts, to remove any obstacle to Him, and to free them from evil. During the 2 nd Scrutiny, on March 31 st, we have invited our youth Candidates for Confirmation to join the others in coming before the Lord during Lent. The celebration of Sacraments for these catechumens and candidates is the Easter Vigil. Lent over, the Church arises in the victory of Jesus. The Easter Vigil will be on Saturday, April 20 th at 8:30 PM, where Baptisms will be celebrated. Several adults will receive both Communion and Confirmation. As they live Lent for their first full Easter, you can come live Lent with us for a renewal of life! FRIDAY, MAR. 15 th - 7:30 PM and all the Fridays in Lent Stations of the Cross in English in church TUESDAY to SATURDAY, MAR. 26 th to 30 th Week of Eucharistic Adoration A schedule will be distributed Mar. 24 th.
