(pictured: Scarlet O Malley) LOOKING AHEAD AT LENT March 6 th Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent on March 6 th with a special 7pm service. The imposition of ashes, along with Holy Communion, will be a part of the service. The theme for the Wednesday night services will be: Living the Jesus Creed of Love. After Ash Wednesday, we ll be using the beautiful evening service called: Holden Evening Prayer. Plan to make Lent important this year through mid-week worshipping. Trinity Mission Statement To proclaim God s grace in Christ through Word and Sacrament; To nurture faith through Christian education and fellowship; and To bring the Gospel to the world community through Christian witness, sacrifice, and love.
Baptism Is Our Identity In many liturgical churches, The Baptism of Our Lord Sunday (this past January) is an annual tradition that sustains the theme of Epiphany (to be revealed). It s a wonderful service that lifts up the meaning of Baptism in our lives. I believe that the Baptism of Jesus emphasizes this incredible gift: We are His Children and we have a purpose. The voice of God announced after Jesus baptism by John: This is my Son, with whom I am well pleased. It encouraged the human side of Jesus to begin his public ministry, and it also says to us how important we are in OUR baptism. Every time I baptize a child or adult, I sense the voice of God saying: This, too, is my child, with whom I am well pleased! It s about Identity! It s about being a Child of God! It s about having a purpose! It s about turning from sin and walking in a new life. Mainline churches, like Trinity, usually baptize babies. We call it a Sacrament: A special way to receive God s Grace as a gift. And then we live it out! If Christian Identity is a gift through grace, then we want to give out this identity, and all the spiritual gifts that accompany it, to the young child, even though they may not understand it all yet. Through the faith of the parents, sponsors and congregation, the faith of the child grows and matures into discipleship. The child learns that they are saved by grace through faith as a gift of God. Every faith decision afterward is a response to this gift. At Confirmation, they Affirm this Baptism publicly. For most Non-denominational churches, along with Baptist and Assembly of God churches, I believe baptism is more of an Ordinance. As one grows old enough in the faith to decide for themselves as to their spiritual direction and discipleship, baptism is a religious rite that relies on God s grace, but points to their personal decision of discipleship. It is an event that can be experienced more than once. Which is the right view of baptism? Both are. Both have biblical roots and long standing tradition over the centuries. But one thing all churches have in common: Baptism is about growing into a new life and knowing one s identity as a child of God, through the Holy Spirit. And if we are children of God, we are in his care and mercy every day. Thanks Be to God! 2 And so, in this month of February, as we continue in the season of Epiphany, look for God s signs to you, as did the Wise Men. Let your identity in Christ strengthen you to live out this identity in justice and love. God bless you, Pastor Paul We celebrated Pastor Paul s 10 year anniversary at Trinity with a delicious cake at the Annual Meeting! 2019 Trinity Lutheran Church Council President: Gayle McMeekin Vice President: Kevin Purrier Secretary: Corey Wagner (new) Treasurer: Randy Demmer Amber Bolles (new) Shelly Anderson (new) Melanie Dobson (new) Bruce Fish (new) Chad O Connor Pat Towey Jon Zuk Dave Jorstad Troy Roe Grace Becker (new youth) 2019 Auditing Committee: Glenn Pollock, Jeff Tank 2020 Nominating Committee: Randy Demmer, John Thoe

SEMCAC ITEMS ARE COLLECTED IN THE NARTHEX Items Needed: Boxed food items like crackers or macaroni All Women, All Ages Are Invited! Women s Bible Study Wednesday, February 20th 9:00am You are invited to join a small group of ladies as we get together and share a study using the Gather magazine study. This group of ladies comprise the "old" circle studies our moms went to for years. Fellowship is included and we share laughs and concerns. Please come! Please join us for quilting! The Trinity Quilting Group will meet February 14th & 28th 9am to noon. We put quilt tops together with batting and a backing. Usually, someone takes this quilt home to bind and tie. If we had more volunteers, we could sew the bindings and tie right at church. Congratulations to Stephanie Perzichilli, the winner of the quilt raffle! This will be Karen Severson s last year of being the co-chair for the Christian Service Groups. We are looking for a replacement for 2019. Karen will be available to help with training a new person in on the duties required for this important position. Please consider! Let Karen or the church office know if you are interested.
