C H I L H O W E E B A P T I S T M E S S E N G E R C H A R M Walk and Pray in April and May It s been awhile since we ve asked for volunteers to come to Townsend to walk and pray. This April and May, we d like to renew the focus of prayer walking in Townsend. Will you put it on your calendar? Could you invite a friend to come with you? Would your Bible study group, women s group, or men s breakfast fellowship like to commit right now to Walk and Pray in April and May? There is a paved pathway on both sides of Lamar Alexander Parkway Townsend s Main Street. One side is quite flat. The other side has some gentle slopes. Whether you want an easy stroll or would like a challenge, you can find a great place for walking and praying. The path runs for five miles through the heart of Townsend. You don t have to go for all five miles, and certainly you don t have to make the round trip. Just pick a section and walk and pray. If health or other reasons keep you from walking, you can Rock and Pray at the porch of the visitor center or at Apple Valley Country Store. Or you could Drive and Pray or even Park and Pray. Wherever you pray along the path, you will pass a place where CHARM does missions. In front of the IGA grocery, you can pray for the ice cream giveaway that happens in June and July, or Christmas wrapping in December, giving opportunities to meet people and talk to them about Jesus. Near the Townsend Visitor s Center you can pray for CHARM volunteers who serve visitors and vendors at festivals in spring and fall. If you walk past the campgrounds, you can pray for people to get closer to God during our summer outreach there. Pray for these men who lead campground Sunday services: David Ricketts, Steve Monroe, Larry Carter, and Steve Myers. Pray for the people who attend year-round Bible study at KOA Campground. When you walk the path, you ll be parallel to Little River, so you can pray that volunteers make a kingdom impact as they assist workers in the tubing industry in Townsend. Pray for students and staff at Townsend Elementary, as we continue to serve them in Jesus name during the school year. Walk past the motels and pray that our outreach to housekeepers and other staff will result in changed hearts and lives. Ask God s favor for workers and business owners, who often struggle financially in the tourism-based economy in Townsend. One more request. Please pray as new leadership comes to CHARM. Ask God to give wisdom to those who will choose a new CHARM director. Please pray for the CHARM team that s leading the mission in the interim. They are Steve and Sandra Monroe, Steve and Kathy Myers, Ricky and Veronica Sims, and Pat Flynn. Serving with joy, Joe and Linda Ledford Page 2 Director of Missions Jim Snyder s Home # 865 980-8511 Cell # 865 604-2276, email jimsnyder@cbalive.org

V O L U M E 6 I S S U E 2 Page 3 B A P T I S T C E N T E R Families Served December 2016-January 2017 SERVICES Benevolence NO. OF FAMILIES 14 (Utility support, gasoline) Blankets 62 Clothing 214 Diapers 12 Food 710 Toiletries 696 Cleaning supplies 605 Furniture 28 Our Happy Birthday Jesus Party was Dec 10th. This year we made a shift in direction and ended up doubly blessed by the generosity of our churches. Our original goal had been to serve 125 families with extra food to prepare a nice Christmas meal. We had also set a goal of having back packs for all the children that were filled with snacks as well as some extra school supplies and a toy and personal items. Our Chilhowee Baptist Association Churches responded with enough to fill 245 boxes for distribution. That increased our ability to help much more than our 85 families last year. We found there was a greater need for food than for the toys we have been giving. Banner Baptist Church in Gatlinburg also benefited from the generosity of our Chilhowee Baptist Associational churches. We were able to take enough food boxes for each of their church families as well as a few extras for families they are serving within their community. Money was also raised for replacement of their tables which were lost in the fires which destroyed their fellowship hall building. We will be keeping up with their needs throughout the next months to see how we can further assist them as they recover from the fires in their community. Our first year with Reconciled Ministries has come to an end. God is continuing to bless this ministry as we still see new faces each week. We have been consistently serving meals and a message to 20 or more each week and expect the numbers to grow as we move into our second year. Resurrection Celebration is our next big event and will take place on April 8th. Letters have been mailed to each of our churches. If you would like to help gather supplies for these totes and have not seen the list, please let us know and we will get a copy to you. All totes and supplies need to be dropped off at the Baptist Center by March 28th. Churches to bring food in March: Friendsville First Baptist, Armona, Greenback Memorial, Mt. Zion, Oak Street, Smokey View, Springview. Churches to bring food in April: Madison Avenue, Allegheny, Bethel, Caylor s Chapel, Ellejoy, Kagley s Chapel Serving Him Together Rick and Sue Myers

This is where we live. Where we raise our families. Where we work, and where we play. And it s mostly a post-christian world. 269 million of our neighbors in North America do not know Jesus Christ. Daily, we sit next to those without hope. But we can reach them through one of the most effective evangelism methods: planting churches. Together we can equip missionaries and reach the unreached in North America. Together we can equip missionaries through the power of prayer and through our financial gifts. Missionaries need training, resources and education. They need a community network. They and their families need support for the basics of living life while they build a congregation. Your financial gifts provide a solid foundation for these missionaries, their families and the churches they are building. We can t all go, but we can all give together.
