Parish Update A Weekly Newsletter of St. Margaret Mary Parish Fifth Sunday of Lent March 14, 2016 We might look at Easter as yet another New Year s Day. It marks a time of new life in the resurrection of the Lord, and as Spring comes, new life blooms around us. Lent then might be considered a time where we are contemplating our New Year s resolution. How has this Lenten season helped you resolve to live a closer life in and with Christ? If this season has not brought that kind of contemplation, perhaps a good place to start is with reconciling ourselves to Christ. Look in this week s e=mail for opportunities of reconciliation and ways to start anew a deeper life for, in and with our resurrected Lord, Jesus. Quote of the Week God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting their trespasses against them and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. - Second Corinthians 5:19 Question of the Week How has this Lenten journey challenged me to reflect on my personal sinfulness? In many ways, all of life can be thought of as a Lenten journey. Difficult struggles accompany the journey. Frequent failures accompany many of our good intentions. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is sinless. During Lent overcoming the discouragement that comes from our sinfulness may be the hardest challenge. Perhaps e very examination of conscience should be accompanied by a reading of the first chapter of John s Gospel, particularly the reassuring fifth verse that says, The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. The reading from Second Corinthians proclaimed two Sundays ago may also offer us an antidote to discouragement when it says we have been entrusted with the message of reconciliation.
