Called to Action PARISH LIFE ADVENT CONCERT HANDEL S MESSIAH SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16 TH 4:00 PM OUR LADY OF MERCY CATHOLIC CHURCH The Fifth Annual Advent Concert featuring the OLOM Chancel Choir will present the Christmas portion of Handel s Messiah this Advent Season. Bring the whole family for an hour-long, candle-lit, musical event which includes the ever popular Hallelujah Chorus among other classic features. Messiah is an oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. Handel uses a scriptural text to tell the events of the life of Jesus in three parts: Prophesy and Birth; Passion and Resurrection; and the Promise of Eternal Life. Since its premier, the oratorio has risen in popularity, becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. It begins with prophetic promises of the birth of the Christ, many from the Old Testament book of Isaiah. The actual birth of Jesus is revealed, and then Messiah narrates the experience of the shepherds outside of Bethlehem, completing the birth story. I want to remind you that for those who have researched costs for cremation resting places - the Mercy Columbarium Garden is an incredibly good deal and significant cost savings. Called to Action PARISH LIFE LA War Veterans Home The Giving Tree Collection for the Louisiana War Veterans Home will end on December 14th. Please drop off any items for this collection to the Church Office before the collection date. Life Night Sunday, December 16th 7:00-9:00 pm Emmanuel Hall All students grades 9-12 are invited to Life Teen s first Study Center! Emmanuel Hall will be open from 3:30pm-9:30pm for students to study and prepare for their exams. There will be food and drinks available, as well as study break options in other rooms - a Christmas movie, games, etc. Students are free to stay for a short time, or stick around for the long haul. Happy studying! The last Bible Study before Christmas break will be Thursday December 20th in the JPII House from 6:30-8. Place all of your valuables in the trunk of your vehicle in order to avoid anyone who might be tempted to something the Lord would not want them to do. It is recommended that you do not give cash to anyone soliciting money. This only encourages repeat behavior and is somewhat fearful to those in the Adoration Chapel and the elderly. If you want to support the needy, then give to the St. Vincent de Paul Society where your generosity will surely help the poor and hungry. Holy Name Society The Holy Name Society promotes reverence for the Sacred Names of God and Jesus Christ, obedience and loyalty to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, and the personal sanctification and holiness of its members. Members are called to contribute to the evangelization mission of the Church and to make perpetual acts of reverence and love for our Lord and Savior. The apostolate of the society is to assist in parish ministries. The Holy Name Society meets in the Parish Activity Center every second Sunday of the month following 7:00 am Mass. Amen Opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Our Lady of Mercy: 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 12 WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19 ACTS RETREAT While utilizing prayer, service, and teaching, the ACTS Retreat meets people where they are in their spiritual journey and invites them to experience God in a manner that is both personal and communal. Throughout the weekend, participants are invited to prayerfully consider how they can respond to God s love by spiritually surrendering to Jesus in order to have new life with Him. This invitation is extended through the pillars of the apostolate: Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service. This experience is an opportunity for spiritual renewal and the making of many friends. Fr. Cleo invites you to prayerfully consider joining a group of men/women from our parish to make this spiritual retreat at The Solomon Center in Loranger, Louisiana. The cost of the retreat is $255 per double occupancy room for Mercy parishioners and $330 for non-parishioners.
