Now faith, hope, and love abide; and the love of God will never end. Let us worship God. *Hymn #138 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! Nicaea
*Prayer of Confession God our Redeemer, we confess that our lives do not reflect your glory. You are loving, patient, and kind; we are envious, boastful, and arrogant. You rejoice in the truth; we revel in our wrongdoing. Forgive us, God of grace. Put an end to our selfish ways and teach us to love one another as you have loved us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (prayer continues) *Kyrie #574 Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us Johnson *Declaration of Forgiveness *The Response #579 Gloria Patri Greatorex *The Peace The Peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. ~The Word~ Prayer for Illumination Holy Spirit, as the word of the Lord came to Isaiah in his time, bring this word now to us. Touch our mouths and our hearts with your word today, that we may build on it in our lives, in the church, and in your world. Amen. First Scripture Reading 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Psalm 71 Dr. Angela Batey, cantor Hopson In you O Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your justice, rescue me, free me; pay heed to me and save me. (R) Be a rock where I can take refuge, a mighty strong-hold to save me; for you are my rock and strong-hold. Free me from the hand of the wicked, from the grip of the unjust, of the oppressor. (R) It is you, O Lord, who are my hope, my trust, O Lord, since my youth. On you I have leaned from my birth; from my mother's womb you have been my help. My hope has always been in you. (R) Second Scripture Reading Isaiah 6:1-8 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sermon That Which Gets One s Attention Rev. Matt Nieman ~The Response~ *Affirmation of Faith from the Confession of 1967 We believe that wise and virtuous persons through the ages have sought the highest good in devotion to freedom, justice, peace, truth and beauty. Yet all human virtue, when seen in the light of God s love in Jesus Christ, is found to be infected with self-interest and hostility. All persons, good and bad alike, are in the wrong before God and helpless without God s forgiveness. Anthem *8:30 Hymn #335 Though I May Speak O Waly Waly 11:00 The Gift of Love arr. Hopson Chancel Choir (continued next page)
Though I may speak with bravest fire, And have the gift to all inspire, And have not love, my words are vain, As sounding brass, and hopeless gain. Though I may give all I possess, And striving so my love profess, But not be given by love within, The profit soon turns strangely thin. Come, Spirit, come, our hearts control, Our spirits long to be made whole. Let inward love guide every deed; By this we worship, and are freed. Moment for Mission Souper Bowl of Caring Offering The Offering Offertory Intermezzo Richter *Response #592 Doxology Old Hundredth *Prayer of Dedication The Invitation to the Lord s Table ~The Eucharist~ Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. Sanctus Phillips

Each month, one Bible story is featured, with a different weekly rotation of the story, using music, art, games, drama, cooking, video, or serving, etc. to experience the story more deeply. Students are using Sparkhouse s Echo series, a Bible overview for youth using storytelling, creative reflection, and dialogue. Through this story-based approach, students find meaning and identity in the biblical narrative. We use The Present Word. This winter we will study an exploration all about the love of God. Each lesson stands alone, so join us any week to participate as you d like. This class has begun an 11-week study of Days of Awe and Wonder: How to Be a Christian in the Twenty-first Century by Marcus Borg. This new drop-in group led by Jenny Trussell will be discussing a variety of different topics each week, so grab a cup of coffee and join us. No studying involved!
