The Lord s Day Worship A.D. April 2, 2017 NOTE: All Scripture is taken from the English Standard Version except where stated otherwise. * Denotes congregation standing Cleansed By God God s Law Word: Ephesians 4:29 Prayer of Confession of Sin Assurance of Pardon: I Peter 2:21-25 Called By God * Call to Worship In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19) Amen. Grace, mercy, and peace to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. The Lord be with you. (cf. I Timothy 1:2) And also with you. Amen! (cf. Ruth 2:4) Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, (Revelation 5:11) saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" (Revelation 5:12) And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!" (Revelation 5:13) And the four living creatures said, "Amen!" and the elders fell down and worshiped. (Revelation 5:14) Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Amen. * Hymn # 168 I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art * Invocation and Lord s Prayer (Lord s Prayer found on the inside back cover of the Trinity Hymnal)

* Hymns # 734 Gloria Patri Consecrated by God Responsive Readings: Idleness and Diligence Proverbs 10:26 Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him. Proverbs 18:9 Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys. Proverbs 13:4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. II Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. 9 It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. 13 As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. Gossip and Godly Restraint Proverbs 6:16 There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers Proverbs 11:12 Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent. 13 Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered. Proverbs 16:28 A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9 Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. Proverbs 18:8 The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body. Proverbs 20:19 Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler. Proverbs 25:9 Argue your case with your neighbor himself, and do not reveal another's secret, 10 lest he who hears you bring shame upon you, and your ill repute have no end. Proverbs 26:20 For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. Proverbs 26:22 The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body. I Peter 4:15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. * Hymn # 637 What Shall I Render to My God * Sermon Text and Title: I Timothy 5:9-16 Busy Doing What? * Hymn of Response: # 590 Jesus, Master, Whose I Am Communion with God Prayers of God s People * Confessing the Faith Nicene Creed (Found on page 846 of the Trinity Hymnal)

Your tithes and offerings may be placed in the small box at the back of the room. As we will give thanks to God for his gifts during the service, we encourage you to make your offering before the service. Happy Birthday Luke (April 18), Esther (April 21), Peter (April 29), Ho-Joon (May 5) *NURSERY: We are delighted to have God s children worship with us.
