LIBRARY LINES OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE GLENWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY October 2018 Volume 7 Issue 4 Friends of the Library High Tea will be October 20th at Kaufman Hall. (24116 Marian Ave. Glenwood) Viewing of tables at 11am High Tea served at 11:30am Tickets are $10.00 Any questions please call the Glenwood Public Library at (712) 527-5252

What's been happening... We have been busy these past few months here at the library! Summer Reading was a success for many! We had some great things that happened over the summer! Library on the lawn had some great entertainment: Tim Langholtz and Kelly Evans performed some Beatles Music. Glenwood High School Drum Line came and banged out a few songs for us. "Libby" got to hang out with them too! We even had some talented singers at our Lip Sync Battle! The chocolate microphones were a tasty hit with the winners! Nikki, our very own library staff, played her Ukulele. She is an amazing self taught player! Way to go Nikki ~ you are an inspiration to many! Dan Wardell from IPTV packed the library as well. We always enjoy the show he puts on for his Reading Road Trip! Our Genealogist, Jackie Harless, gave a presentation on the History of Glenwood Town Square in 1899. A special "Thank You" goes out to Joe & LuAnn Edwards for opening up their apartment during this walk.

Director's Notes Recently, we had a patron who was struggling with printing and copying a resume and letters of recommendation. We see these problems on a regular basis: formatting, document type, need for help editing and even, I ve run out of ink! After helping her resolve her issues and print, scan and e-mail what she needed she noted, That was the best dollar I ve ever spent Comments like this really make us feel that we are doing something right! We hope everyone got a chance to enjoy our summer reading program: rewards for reading, opportunities to laugh and learn, a place to get out of the heat! With our very fun and event-filled summer behind us, we are returning to our regular programming. As you may have heard, the library suffered a lightning strike over the Labor Day weekend and I thought water was bad for libraries! It found its way into our computer network and took out (apparently) random computers and devices all over the building. We were able to get up and running within a day, but the sort of ghost in the machine effect of unexpected problems is still ongoing We apologize to anyone caught up in the mess! On a good note, we recently had an automatic door installed at the Ramp entrance ~ south side of the front door ~ that leads to our children's department!

Congratulations to: Aleah Davis Teagan Sands and their parents for having read 1,000 Books together! We have over 70 Children participating in this program!
