Around the parish, greater Gainesville and the diocese FEBRUARY 19, 2016 2017 Bishop s Annual Stewardship Appeal A Time for Reflection VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Seeking volunteers for St. Augustine's Monday meal preparation at 2pm and meal service from 5:30 to 6:30 This is a wonderful opportunity to meet--face to face--those Christ calls us to serve. For more information contact: Rosanne at service@catholicgators.org This week, we hope you will review the Bishop s Annual Stewardship Appeal information you have received. The Bishop s Appeal is different than a one-time special collection. It is a campaign where you are invited to make a pledge payable over six months. A gift to the Bishop s Annual Stewardship Appeal will touch the lives of many in a very positive way. Your gifts will provide critical funding to pay for the education and formation of our seminarians, to help those most in need through four regional Catholic Charities offices, to provide support for five designated Catholic schools, and to ensure newer means of connecting to and evangelizing our faithful. As you review the vocations and ministries the Appeal supports, please reflect on your gifts. God has given you all that you have. Your gifts to our parish, to the Diocese, and to the work of the Church throughout the world are a disciple s response. WOMEN S BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP The Women s Book Discussion group will meet Sunday February 26 at 9:15 in the downstairs conference room. This month we will be studying the Historical Mary of Nazareth from the early church through the Renaissance and Reformation. All interested women are welcome. the St. Vincent de Paul Society February 19 Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time In today s Gospel, Jesus challenges us by saying: You must be perfected as your heavenly Father is perfect. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts and into our lives. Call 352-222-0588 for assistance or to make a donation. 3

Stewardship in the parish seventh SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME STEWARDSHIP Masses on February 12, 2017 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Offertory: $7,461.96 Mercedarian Sisters: $5.00 E-Giving: $4,921.00 Grace Marketplace: $25.00 Poor Box: $100.06 Alumni Giving: $145.00 Catholic Student Center (CSC): $697.07 Capital Campaign: $25.00 Sanctuary & Altar R&M: $235.00 Sister Parish Donation: $25.00 Sister Parish Sponsorship: $70.00 St. Francis House: $25.00 Burkina Faso: $50.00 Tabernacle Lights 2/26-3/19: $40.00 STEWARDSHIP SPOTLIGHT - THE SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME February 19, 2017 Bring a pizza to church next weekend! No, I don t mean literally bring a pizza. That would be a mess. We are in the middle of the Bishop s Annual Stewardship Appeal, and I am asking everyone, including students, to contribute the cost of a large pizza to this worthwhile cause. The BASA is used to fund the training of our seminarians, support Catholic Charities, Catholic schools, and evangelization & communication. Much of our contributions will end up back here in Gainesville. People on a budget, who might even be getting by on student loans, should ask themselves if they could forgo one pizza sometime over the year to contribute to this annual appeal. Contributions must be made in envelopes that will be handed out during mass, so I m asking everyone to plan ahead bring a $10 bill in your wallet to have it ready. Don t let the fact that you only have ATM money (you know what I mean) keep you from making a contribution. Now there are many people in the parish who can afford to contribute the cost of a family dinner out at a nice restaurant, perhaps $100, to the BASA. You might want to make this by check or credit card. Both can be done for the collection or online at the diocese (www.givecentral.org/dosa2016). There are also people who can afford to donate at the level of $1,000 or higher, the Crozier Society, for this effort. Please do. This is that important. Regardless of how much you decide to give, please come prepared. Our parish is viewed not by how much we give to the BASA, but my how many people contribute, as a sign of our support for the diocese. Thank you, Paul A. Gulig Chair, Stewardship Committee and Parish Council 4
